"Neutrality is not an option.

The public square will be occupied.

The question is by whom."

In our last piece, Science Pleads the Fifth, we traced a biblical pattern of deception ranging from Absalom’s calculated charm in 2 Samuel to the Gibeonite ruse in Joshua 9, applying both to the spiritual condition of 21st-century America.

Absalom’s beauty concealed rebellion; the Gibeonites’ worn garments, patched wineskins, old shoes, and moldy bread concealed fraud. In both instances, appearance masked reality.

A.W. Pink warned that God’s people are often more endangered by the serpent’s subtlety than by the lion’s roar, because deception rarely announces itself as deception. It comes credentialed, persuasive, and carefully arranged to produce the desired outcome.

We argued that COVID-19 was therefore more than a medical or political crisis. It was a spiritual test of whether the American Church retained enough discernment to distinguish truth from institutional manipulation as well as whether it has recovered enough wisdom to seek the Lord’s counsel and prevent such deception from happening again.

Dr. Anthony Fauci - once treated by much of the media as the nation’s most trusted voice on COVID-19 - testified before the Senate Homeland Security Committee and invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times, a striking fact in and of itself. The man who repeatedly assured the country he had nothing to hide declined to answer under oath.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul then released more than 1,100 pages of Fauci’s personal diary, spanning from December 2019 through 2022 - the years of mask mandates, lockdowns, school closures, vaccine mandates, and unprecedented governmental intrusion into the lives of the American people.

Someone, plainly, was on a power trip.

According to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the records were retrieved from government servers and provided to Senator Paul’s Republican-led Senate committee as part of its COVID origins investigation.

Left untouched were three blue-state governors - Gavin Newsom of California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Janet Mills of Maine - who exercised power through edicts no legislature had granted, even singling out gathered church services for shutdown while secular commerce received more favorable treatment.

They did so in the name of a scientific authority that has now been discredited.

Jewish Hebrew scholar Michael V. Fox’s phrase from Proverbs 28:2 - “oppressive multiplicity of rulers” - fits the moment. From 2020 to 2024, it was validated in modern dress-up, not by one tyrannical autocrat, but by many smaller ones: each governing by edict rather than consent, each answerable to no single accountable body, each converging on the same oppressive and hostile prefabrication that the sanctuary door was more harmful than the retail aisle.

In hindsight, the demonstrable record will not be kind to Dr. Fauci. Roughly 81% of Americans received at least one COVID shot while the country was assured that masks, a high-handed 6-foot distancing rule, coercive vaccine mandates, school closures, church restrictions, and official hostility toward natural immunity, Ivermectin, and hydroxychloroquine were ‘settled science’ rather than contested judgments imposed by government authority.

The lab-leak theory, which Fauci publicly marginalized, now appears far more plausible than the public was led to believe, as private and governmental records demonstrate that it deserved serious scrutiny from the beginning.

Fauci maintained that NIH did not fund gain-of-function research in Wuhan, while later congressional findings and testimony cast that claim in grave doubt.

Whether one calls them lies, evasions, misjudgments, or institutional self-protection, the result was the same: the American people were browbeaten and bullied into obeying an official narrative that later collapsed under the weight of its own contradictions and absurdities.

Which brings us to Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, when the battle for ideological supremacy and control of the culture reaches its climax in this election cycle.

Two distinct religions - Christianity and secularism - are vying for control of America’s public square.

The former is eternal and immutable; the latter is transient and ever-changing.

They cannot peacefully coexist as governing authorities. One will ultimately recede as the other is elevated.

As to the political side, Fox News contributor and editor-at-large at The Spectator World, Ben Domenech put it bluntly: “We should recognize what a danger it is to have a major party just become Commie ISIS; a coalition that joins all the people who want to seize your property, eliminate the nuclear family, re-educate your children, and also, on occasion, slaughter a goat in their backyard.”

Of course, the backyard goat is not our pivotal concern. The deeper concern is the importation of civilizational assumptions fundamentally at odds with America’s constitutional order: child marriage, Sharia law, honor killings, the legal and cultural subordination of women, coercion in matters of faith and conscience, hostility toward Jews and Christians, suppression of free speech, and the replacement of equal justice under the law with sectarian courts and customs.

The issue is whether any anti-God ideology - Islamic, secularist, Marxist, or otherwise - will be allowed to displace the biblical and constitutional architecture of ordered liberty in the American public square.

America was not built to be governed by competing systems hostile to the God of the Bible, the sanctity of life, the family, liberty of conscience, equal justice under the law, and the moral order necessary for self-government. Once those foundations are removed, freedom does not remain suspended in midair.

It collapses.

Somebody’s values will reign supreme in the public square.

Somebody’s theology will become law.

Somebody’s disciples will sit on school boards, county commissions, city councils, state legislatures, courts, and Congress.

The only question is whether those disciples will be formed by Christianity - eternal, immutable, and anchored in the fear of the Lord - or by the ever-changing ideologies of secularism, Marxism, Islamism, and every other rival ‘-ism’ seeking dominion over the gates of the city.

Neutrality is not an option.

The public square will be occupied.

The question is by whom.

Gideons and Rahabs have begun to enter America’s public square.
