Clorox is relying on offensive language to create a sense of relatability in its newest disinfectant wipe commercial. One Million Moms has received many complaints regarding the “What the Fudge?” ad.
In an attempt to capture a “real” moment of daily life, the advertisement shows a mother cleaning out her daughter’s backpack. Filled with frustration after discovering a melted chocolate bar has ruined a student binder, she says, “What the fudge?”
This insinuated profanity is entirely unnecessary, and viewers understand the exact word implied. After the Clorox wipe is used to clean the binder, the daughter puts on her freshly cleaned backpack before leaving the house for school.
Clorox is a prominent household name and should be more responsible in its marketing decisions. Everyone knows children repeat what they hear, particularly when a young person is present in the ad. Typically, young actors attract young viewers.
Clorox has deliberately decided to produce controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones. 1MM finds this highly inappropriate, especially when dealing with marketing for children and back-to-school.
Let Clorox know that, as a parent and consumer, you are disappointed by the company’s recent marketing choices.
Clorox needs to know that parents disapprove!
If you agree this marketing campaign is inappropriate, please sign our petition urging Clorox to cancel the “What the Fudge” commercial immediately.
