AFA announces ‘Culture Warrior’ documentary revealing origins of groundbreaking ministry
TUPELO, Miss. — The life and ministry of American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) founder Donald E. Wildmon is coming to screens this fall in a new feature-length documentary from American Family Studios.
“Culture Warrior: Don Wildmon and the Battle for Decency” will explore the founding of AFA and many of the cultural and spiritual battles that marked the early years of the ministry. Don began the National Federation for Decency in his home in 1977 and quickly became a feared figure among network TV executives and advertisers. The concern grew beyond prime-time television, eventually confronting secular humanism, Playboy magazine, The Last Temptation of Christ (movie), the National Endowment for the Arts, the ACLU, and the growing homosexual agenda. Gifted with common sense, shrewdness and spiritual determination, Don’s stand for righteousness continues to inspire and activate countless believers today.
“We are excited to share the legacy of my father Don Wildmon and the foundations of AFA’s ministry,” says Tim Wildmon, President of American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net). “As an organization based on restoring America’s family values, it is our mission to raise awareness of the cultural and spiritual battles that have defined America’s national life over the last 50 years.”
“Culture Warrior is more than a reflection on a great man of God,” said M.D. Perkins, the film’s director. “It is reflecting on our nation’s recent tragic decline. It is a call for Christians to continue to stand for righteousness as God leads.”
Topics covered in the documentary include:
- AFA’s monitoring of prime-time television
- Use of boycotts to pressure advertisers regarding network content
- The influence of a secular humanist worldview expressed in entertainment media
- Marriage amendment battles at the state and national level
The documentary will be available to the public via internet streaming and DVD on November 11 and available on AFA Stream for AFA Great Commission Partners on October 28.
For over 40 years, AFA has operated within the mission to inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission.
