AFA: America’s Christians getting a crash course in the fears of other believers around the globe
TUPELO, Miss. — A newly released study confirms that American Christians are profoundly apprehensive about the future of Christianity in the U.S., and deeply fearful about the future of the country and the world. According to the Lifeway Research study, 69% of American pastors sense growing alarm in their congregations about where America is headed; additionally, 63% report dismay about what is happening within Christianity in America. The study also noted that, overall, these numbers were actually lower than the previous years, but still significant enough to warrant concern.
American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano said fear and anxiety are enemies to be overcome by the essential basics of true Christian life and practice: Bible reading, prayer, and a renewed commitments to obedience, purity and fellow believers.
“This sense of dread is to be expected precisely because the cultural and political situation in this nation is becoming fairly grim. In a lot of ways, Christians in America are getting a crash course in what believers in various other parts of the world have experienced for decades. The solution for the church is as it’s always been, and it includes abiding in the word of God, the pursuit of holiness, obedience, a deepening prayer life, faithfulness to church and fellow believers, and the like. For two millennia, that has been what Christians have done when a culture becomes overtly hostile to their faith,” said Vitagliano.
