Fighting Attacks from Sex and Gender Radicals
TUPELO, Miss. — On Monday, March 22, Jack Phillips was back in court facing another lawsuit. In 2012, Phillips, a baker in Colorado, had won a partial victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 in Masterpiece Cakeshop, LTD. et al. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission for refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because of his religious beliefs. It is only a partial victory because the SCOTUS justices did not rule on the larger issue of whether businesses can invoke religious objections to refuse service to gays or lesbians.
For more than eight years, LGBT activists have targeted Phillips for his beliefs. This time, he is being sued for declining to bake a cake celebrating a transgender transition.
Autumn Scardina, an attorney, requested a cake to be blue on the outside and pink on the inside in honor of her gender transition (from male to female). Scardina tried to order the cake on the exact day in 2017, when it was announced that the Supreme Court would hear Phillips’ appeal regarding the wedding cake case. Scardina said Phillips had maintained that, “as a Christian, he opposed making the gay couple’s wedding cake because it involved a religious ceremony but would sell any other type of product.” She (Scardina) said she “called Phillips’ Masterpiece Cakeshop to place the order after hearing about the court’s announcement because she wanted to find out if he really meant it.”
Phillips is a Christian and his religious beliefs prevent him from offering his services to promote LGBTQ ideology.
“With Hollywood, corporate America, the media, and the educational establishments in full support of the LGBT agenda, it is apparent that the power centers of America are now in full rebellion against God,” stated Ed Vitagliano, executive vice president of the American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net).
“However, the question is, what about the average, every day American? The church must maintain its bold declaration of God’s truth to provide a counterweight to the deceptions of this dark hour. People like Jack Phillips are heroes precisely because they will not bend the knee to the bullies who have temporarily seized power. AFA encourages Christians to continue praying for Phillips as he fends off yet another attack from the sex and gender radicals.”
