American Family Association Applauds Mississippi Transgender Ban and Encourages More States to Follow Suit
TUPELO, Miss. — On Thursday, March 11, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves signed the Mississippi Fairness Act into law, banning transgender athletes in the state from competing in female sports in public schools. Mississippi Republicans have said the law, which will affect state schools and universities, is a necessary response to President Biden’s day-one executive order calling on schools across the country to allow students to participate in sports under their chosen gender identity.
“The Biden administration promoted confusion regarding the topic of human sexuality by signing an executive order allowing boys to compete in girls’ sports,” stated Walker Wildmon, vice president of operations and public policy analyst for American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net). “President Biden has blurred the line between male and female. This policy will have dangerous consequences – which is why Mississippi took an important step to protect female athletes. Girls should be able to compete against one another without the fear of a male invading their locker room and sports team. I applaud the Mississippi legislature and governor for seeing this legislation through the finish line and I encourage more states to follow suit.”
State lawmakers said the Mississippi Fairness Act would “protect young girls from being forced to compete with biological males for athletic opportunities.” Twenty-five other U.S. states have proposed similar bills to Mississippi.
