AFA Action’s Center for Government Renewal (CGR) is engaging in the hardest fights and biggest battles for the soul of America. As the policy arm of AFA Action, CGR is working to realign America’s institutions to a biblical and constitutional guide star. Toward this end, CGR is currently working to:
1. Make public schools great again by bringing religion and morality back to the classroom.
2. Make pornography illegal and put Big Porn out of business.
3.Restore matrimony, and defend fatherhood and motherhood from the Marxist cultural revolution.
4. Use the law and public policy to foster a culture that makes it easier to be moral.
In Mississippi
Over the past few months, CGR has been active in various states. In its home state of Mississippi, CGR is working with lawmakers to pass important bills, such as the following:
Putting prayer back in schools: Sponsored by Rep. Chuck Blackwell, this legislation puts prayer and religious reading on a level playing field with other on-campus activities, such as a chess club that meets in a classroom during lunch. In doing so, it ends the longstanding, un-American practice of discriminating against religion in public schools.
Keeping kids safe from online predators and rapists: The Keeping Kids Safe Online Act, sponsored by Rep. Joey Hood, gives parents effective control of their children’s online activities so that kids are protected from online predators.
Protecting women from dangerous and illegal abortion pills: Although abortion is illegal in Mississippi, abortions continue at a pace greater than before the 2022 Dobbs case that overturned Roe v. Wade. Loopholes are enabling abortion drug traffickers to harm women and children. This bill, supported by Rep. Celeste Hurst and Sen. Joey Fillingane, will help stop illegal abortion pill trafficking.
Fair banking for everyone: American Family Association has faced debanking issues, as have other prominent conservative organizations. This bill, sponsored by Rep. Shane Aguirre, provides a fair process to prevent discrimination against Christians and others by banks and payment processors.
In other states
CGR is also working in Maryland, Nebraska, and Utah to stop the scourge of child pornography and illegal obscenity. In Oklahoma and South Carolina, CGR is striving to create charitable tax credit programs to help pregnancy resource centers, adoption agencies, and other pro-family groups increase services in their communities. Two other bills of note are HB 583 in Ohio and HB 3240 in Oklahoma.
HB 583, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Ritter and Rep. Johnathan Newman, protects children in Ohio from harmful adult content. This content is being provided to kids as part of the “kid-safe” INFOhio library database. In addition to containing pornography, such databases are full of advertisements for adult dating apps, adult toy shops, and gambling sites.
In Oklahoma, Rep. Toni Hasenbeck is fighting to put constitutional rights back in public schools through the Open to Religion Act. This bill provides students and school employees the opportunity to participate in a voluntary period of prayer or reading of religious texts during noninstructional time.
“And these are only highlights of the Center for Government Renewal’s current work,” said Walker Wildmon, AFA Action CEO. “The center is constantly crafting policy and writing legislation in an effort to save the heart of America.”
Editor’s Note: As of press time, the above bills were still in process and had not been signed into law.
