When it comes to having babies, there are many moments filled with joy and excitement, such as announcing the pregnancy to family and loved ones, discovering the baby’s gender (perhaps at a gender reveal party), and planning baby showers. These trends and events provide an opportunity to celebrate the unborn baby and his or her parents.
However, in 2026, there are parents who, instead of celebrating their child’s conception or birth, are actively making plans to end their baby’s life via abortion and proudly sharing it on social media.
A few months ago, YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife, Ashley, announced their decision to abort their unborn baby due to the baby having a chance of having Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome. The headlines brought the topic of abortion to the forefront.
Unfortunately, another social media scandal occurred this past weekend, showing how lightly many view abortion – and refuse to recognize it as murder.
On August 16, a social media user named “Moraa” created a stir online after posting an AI announcement proudly explaining to the world that her baby was “cancelled.”
In an Instagram post, she showcased wooden blocks spelling “baby,” an ultrasound, baby booties, and a onesie, explaining that the “mommy changed her mind” while using a blurred expletive to describe the baby’s father. The user also included that her baby’s “due date was April 14th 2027.”
Just like the Ridgeways, the post itself had both sides of the aisle discussing the theatrics of publicly announcing an abortion.
According to Yahoo News, supporters were praising the mother, saying:
While others in the comment section (which was filled with more than 11,000 comments at the time this blog was written) stated how the post was “sick,” “murder,” and “disgusting,” with one user including that infertility and infant loss happen daily.
A few days after the initial post, the user posted again, claiming it was a joke and that she “gets paid to troll.”
Regarding this, the New York Post shared that “As one unmasked rage-baiter told The Post last week, an Instagram story that provokes outrage can pull in over $17,000 in just one month, even when it’s totally made up.”
Whether or not her post was true or fake for the sake of making some extra cash, isn’t it beyond concerning that we have reached a point in history where it is hard to tell if posts such as these – posts praising the death of innocent babies – are real or not?
Has murder become a gag?
Are we at the point in our society where a post “canceling a baby” has become so believable because we know that abortion has become such a popular cultural choice?
The National Right to Life explained in its 2026 study of “The Status of Abortion in the United States” that "abortion has taken the lives of more than 63 million unborn American children."
But abortion, and the murder of our most innocent population, may also be starting to impact more individuals than just those who choose abortion for themselves.
In a recent peer-reviewed study, Students for Life of America (SFLA) unearthed that the chemical abortion drug, Mifepristone, can now be found in drinking water.
Kristan Hawkins, the president of SFLA, explained that “A study inspired by Students for Life’s clean water advocacy shows that our concerns are valid. In three cities where water was tested, the active metabolites of mifepristone, the Chemical Abortion Pill, were in the water. We need the EPA to nationalize this examination, especially in light of so many struggling with infertility.”
Just as she mentioned, considering the ever-rising number of infertility cases, these findings are troubling for the future of the entire population and those that will be added to it.
Abortion is not a joke, a gag, or an opportunity to grab more followers on social media.
It is murder.
In fact, it is crippling us as a nation, dwindling our future generations, lowering our population numbers – and perhaps harming the women who are eagerly waiting on their own bundle of joy.
As followers of Christ, we need to rise, share the truth of what is happening around us, and draw attention to the destruction that abortion is causing.
In Proverbs 31:8-9, we are called to:
Open your mouth for the mute,
For the rights of all the unfortunate.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.
And there is no one more needy than these littlest ones without a voice.
