On July 29, 2026, Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in response to a subpoena issued by Republican Senator Rand Paul. For over three hours, Fauci was questioned by committee members on his role in the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from his formal opening statement, Fauci did not answer any substantive questions from members of the Senate committee. Instead, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) declined to answer 111 of the committee’s questions by repeatedly stating, “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.”

Even when asked what day of the week it was, the color of his tie, and the color of the carpet in front of him, Fauci continued to invoke what he and the seven members of his legal team claimed to be his constitutional right to refuse to provide information and answers to the American people and their Senate representatives on his leadership decisions and practices during the pandemic. (Interestingly enough, one of those lawyers was removed and escorted out of the hearing after numerous reprimands from Senator  Rand to remain silent.)

Due to this contentious and fruitless hearing, on August 6, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress for his refusal to answer questions about events leading up to and during the pandemic. The matter was then automatically sent to the U.S. Department of Justice for review, with reprimand, conviction, and/or penalties possible if the contempt can be proven without a doubt.

So, the saga continues, and the American people wait to see whether absolute truth and accountability will ever be provided to the millions of citizens affected by government mandates and practices imposed on them during the COVID-19 pandemic. Complete veracity might be a long shot, but as more information surfaces, the questions are growing louder – and more cohesive.

But the major questions (for me) do not revolve around whether the American people were manipulated and misled during the pandemic, because I am painfully cognizant of our government’s manipulation of the situation and my failure to fully recognize it. No, my major questions about COVID-19 are twofold: Was our government’s manipulation premeditated? And if so, who profited from that manipulation?

Premeditation and profit are my main pandemic questions … and here’s why.

We were told early on during the pandemic to “trust the science.” And we did. We trusted our leaders when they instituted social distancing, required masks, closed businesses, shut down schools, prohibited church services, and ultimately, mandated vaccinations.

For most of us, the first inkling that “trusting the science” was not optional occurred when our jobs and school attendance were predicated upon whether our family members took the shots. In fact, science gave us little to no choice in all the government’s medical mandates – even to the point of controlling which preventive medicines we could receive and eventually limiting us to only two types of shots: Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines. (See an earlier blog on this topic.)

We trusted the science until we realized that it was not totally trustworthy.

Social distancing was not successful, nor was the use of masks or the lack of contact with other human beings. Millions still died. And sadly, many died alone, without contact from family and loved ones.

Plus, multiple family businesses were financially destroyed. Education took a hard hit, so much so that some kids will spend years trying to catch up academically.

People were persecuted (sometimes, even prosecuted) for continued church attendance, failure to wear masks, buying/taking ivermectin or fenbendazole, attempting to visit loved ones in nursing homes, and refusing to take the shots.

The list of long-lasting, far-reaching, negative impacts from America’s national COVID-19 policies goes on and on.

But now, all these years later, we are finally beginning to see glimpses of studies and data suggesting that not only was information and foreknowledge withheld from Americans; it was manipulated for personal gain.

Beware though. As we saw during the Senate hearing with Dr. Fauci, hard questions often bring conflicting and fruitless answers.

For example, even Google’s own AI tool contradicts itself when asked various questions about the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) policy on how government-employed scientists may personally profit from their vaccine research.

Perhaps AI should have also invoked the Fifth Amendment as well, because as far back as 2008, the NIH noted in its annual fiscal report from its Office of Technology Transfer that, “In each fiscal year, NIH and FDA inventors for technologies under a given license share the first $2,000, 15% of the amount up to $50,000 and then 25% thereafter with a cap of $150,000 per person per year.”

I am not so sure I trust that kind of science.

Think about it.

Are other governmental employees incentivized accordingly? For example, do teachers garner similar financial opportunities? Do our nation’s social workers collect large financial rewards for daily tasks? Do employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service receive comparable bonuses?

What about all 23 million employees of the national government? Do they each have the chance to gain financially from private entities because of discoveries made through governmental work?

Of course not.

And let’s be honest. “Trust the science" has often been more of a human "trial and error" learning process for doctors and patients throughout history, resulting in both successes and failures.

With little effort, I recalled a few examples of scientific failures that were initially accepted and readily used by medical professionals: leeches used for bloodletting, opium-based meds such as laudanum and paregoric (often given to infants and children) for pain and other treatments, morphine ironically replaced opium-based pain products, and tobacco-based meds/nicotine products used for various ailments. Later, doctors even smoked cigarettes while treating patients, thalidomide was used to prevent morning sickness, and diethylstilbestrol (DES) was used to prevent miscarriage.

(Find more information on these subjects at the official websites of the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute.)

Granted, without these medical failures and other mistakes made in every field of science (space exploration comes to mind), we would not have achieved all the amazing inventions and the life-saving medical cures we have.

But again, did this particular failure originate from human error or human purpose?

Ultimately, we may never know the extent of malice and forethought connected to this pandemic. But God does, and He keeps good records. So, I’m trusting God rather than science.

And because I fully trust in our unfailing God, my prayer for everyone who suffered (and continues to suffer) pain and loss due to COVID-19 is the same for everyone who prospered during this pandemic: I pray that we all find comfort, hope, peace – and forgiveness in the loving, nail-pierced hands of Jesus Christ.
