THE STAND Blog is the place to find personal insights and perspectives from writers who respond to current cultural topics by promoting faith and defending the family.
THE STAND Magazine is AFA’s monthly publication that filters the culture’s endless stream of information through a grid of scriptural truth. It is chock-full of new stories, feature articles, commentaries, and more that encourage Christians to step out in faith and action.
A few decades ago, political commentators were warning about a “clash of civilizations.” Then we had Gulf War I and Gulf War II. And, today, we have the war in Iran. … It certainly feels like a “clash” between two different worldviews.
Nowhere is this more evident than in public schools. I am reading more and more news reports of public schools allowing:
“Muslim students to leave class to pray in a reserved space on campus during the school day, offering the accommodation daily during Ramadan and once a month during the rest of the year.”
That was in Tennessee, with multiple teachers offering to make their classrooms a “food-free space for Muslim students” during Ramadan.
Imagine if we heard news reports of classrooms being turned into “food-free spaces” during Lent? Or Christians being allowed to pray and read the Bible during school hours in a classroom or in the gym, as opposed to outside “at the flagpole”?
The mainstream media, not to mention the disgraced Southern Poverty Law Center, would go ballistic.
Yet, Oklahoma Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton and Senate Education Chair Adam Pugh are working together to kill legislation that would provide balance in Oklahoma classrooms, protecting kids from indoctrination and religious oppression.
The legislation is HB 3240. Please contact your Oklahoma state senator and ask them to urge Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton to pass HB 3240 out of committee this week.
The purpose of HB 3240, sponsored by Rep. Toni Hasenbeck, is to update Oklahoma’s current law so that kids can pray in school – but the right way. Parental consent. Voluntary participation. Respecting everyone’s rights without giving in to various interest groups.
Under HB 3240, schools are provided with specific guidelines on how to handle prayer and religious reading in school. These guidelines apply to every religion and will guarantee students are not involuntarily exposed to indoctrination, but can instead pray and read the Bible in peace and with parental consent.
The Oklahoma House understands the need for this legislation. They overwhelmingly passed it by a supermajority vote. It’s time for the Oklahoma Senate to do the same.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Please call and email your Oklahoma Senators. Today.
If they SUPPORT HB 3240, sponsored by Rep. Toni Hasenbeck:
Tell them: Stop the delay. Pass HB 3240 to protect Oklahoma students and schools from indoctrination and religious oppression.
If they OPPOSE the bill:
Ask them: Why don’t you support prayer in public schools, done the right way? … with parental consent and voluntary participation, with guidelines that can’t be manipulated by one group over another?
The Oklahoma legislative session is ending soon. Please call and email your Oklahoma state senators today.
Let Jaden Ivey know you stand with him in proclaiming the truth to a lost world.
