AFA recently sent an alert asking supporters to contact their U.S. Senators and urge them to vote against an LGBT spending provision in a bill. Unfortunately, 19 Republican senators joined the Democratic party to help advance the LGBT language by a vote of 69-30. This procedural vote required 60 votes to advance for a final vote.
If 10 of these 19 GOP Senators had demonstrated the courage to vote against it, they could have stopped the LGBT provision. Instead, these 19 Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats to support a bill with dangerous provisions like those found in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s anti-religious liberty bill called the “Equality Act.” Interestingly, Democrats named this provision of the spending bill the “Digital Equity Act of 2021.”
Take action now. Tell your Senator you oppose their vote for the LGBT spending bill, and let them know that their vote has helped create a legal pathway for the courts to place religious liberty in jeopardy.
The LGBT provision adds “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” as a protected class and grants them protection consistent with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. See the provision below:
Many GOP Senators have spun a web of disinformation to justify why they voted for the LGBT spending bill. For example, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) defended his vote in a recent press release saying the bill was:
“far from perfect,” but that it ultimately includes many provisions that will benefit the state of Mississippi. “At the end of the day, I believe this package will do a great service for the United States and for my state of Mississippi. Republicans and Democrats agree that roads, bridges, broadband, ports, and rail are the building blocks of a healthy economy. This bill makes historic down payments on those core priorities,” Wicker said.
Republicans who made it possible to pass this bill have created a legal infrastructure to advance the radical LGBT agenda through the courts. “With this legislation, the proverbial camel is in the tent. The LGBT agenda will only be limited to the wildest imagination of the most liberal judge. And when this happens, you can thank these 19 Republicans who created the roads and bridges that could jeopardize religious liberty in the name of sexual deviancy,” said Abraham Hamilton, III, general counsel for AFA.
Also, remind your Senator that this bill violates the Republican Party Platform, which states that the LGBT agenda “has nothing to do with individual rights; it has everything to do with power. [LGBT activists] are determined to reshape our schools — and our entire society — to fit the mold of an ideology alien to America’s history and traditions.”

Also, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your senator. Leave a message with the staffer about your opposition to the senator's vote for the LGBT spending bill, H.R. 3684. Simply tell them the bill violates conservative principles, the GOP platform, and could jeopardize religious liberty.
