Married religious Americans with children are among the happiest people in the country

TUPELO, Miss. — New research from the University of Chicago suggests that “Americans who are married with children are now leading happier and more prosperous lives, on average, than men and women who are single and childless” with a 30% happiness divide between the two groups. The research also points out Americans have been steadily unhappier during the past 20 years. The leading cause of this decline is the decrease in Americans’ religious affiliation and commitment as those who practice their religion tend to wed and stay married at a higher rate.

Over the last 50 years, marriage rates have drastically declined, leaving it harder for younger generations to have a positive outlook on marriage. A recent Pew Research study suggests that many Americans across various religious groups are concerned about the decline of marriage.

American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) President Tim Wildmon urges Christians to follow God’s model when it comes to sexuality, marriage, and family if they want to live a happy and prosperous life.

“After a decades-long assault on such basic institutions as marriage, it’s a shame that Christians have to reconstruct the truth for people to see with their own eyes,” says Wildmon. “The fact is, God created mankind as well as the model for human happiness and prosperity. When it comes to sexuality, marriage, and family, we succeed if we obey Him and fail if we do not. As this new research demonstrates, the evidence is certainly there for those who want to look.”
