An agent of change

For six decades, from 1962 to 2022, the federal judiciary – particularly the U.S. Supreme Court – stood as the most wayward branch of American government. The Court breached a national relationship with God, falsely claimed that a right to kill unborn children existed in the Constitution, falsely asserted a federal right to redefine marriage, and issued other rulings that not only exceeded its proper authority but brought destruction to America.
Rather than interpreting the law as written, the judiciary frequently legislated from the bench and reshaped American culture and values in ways that departed from the Constitution’s original meaning.
The 2022 reversal of Roe v. Wade marked a decisive turning point by demonstrating that the Supreme Court could correct past errors and restore constitutional order.
While meaningful progress has occurred, and the Court continues to improve, significant work remains. The judiciary is not yet fully aligned with its intended role, and continued vigilance is essential to secure and maintain lasting reform.

A pathway of influence
Many conservative Christians understand how to engage the legislative and executive branches through voting, advocacy, and public participation. Influencing the courts, however, presents unique challenges due to lifetime appointments and the specialized nature of judicial selection.
The Center for Judicial Renewal (CJR), a division of AFA Action, provides a clear and effective pathway to impact the judiciary. With the help of supporters, CJR works daily to renew the third branch of government by identifying principled judges, advancing originalist principles, and coordinating with likeminded allies.
Central to CJR’s efforts is its comprehensive research on Supreme Court prospects. The team has devoted thousands of hours to evaluating more than 35 potential nominees. Six candidates have earned placement on CJR’s “green list” as outstanding choices who would faithfully interpret the Constitution. Four others appear on the “red list,” reflecting records that raise serious concerns.

A coalition of allies
CJR converts research into action by sharing its findings with key leaders in Washington, D.C.
This past summer, CJR co-hosted a major coalition meeting – The Summit of the Supreme Court Review Committee – attended by more than 60 prominent figures. Speakers included Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), and leaders from over 10 allied organizations. (See The Stand, 8/26.)
This collaborative network of leaders and groups multiplies the influence of CJR’s research and strengthens coordinated advocacy for constitutional judges, impacting who will serve next on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Being good stewards
CJR’s work extends across the entire federal judiciary. It researches and ranks every federal judge and nominee serving on courts from all 50 states. This detailed information is accessible at afaaction.net/cjr/nominees.
In addition, CJR assists its AFA Action sister organization, iVoterGuide (iVoterGuide.com), in evaluating and ranking candidates for statewide judicial races nationwide, covering critical contests in all 50 states.
CJR also actively mentors the next generation of attorneys. In its nearly four years of operation, the center has trained, utilized, and sent out more than 20 law students. These attorneys and litigators are being equipped to defend constitutional principles within the judicial system, ensuring a strong pipeline of principled legal talent for decades to come.
Through rigorous, fact-based research, strategic coalition building, and targeted mentorship, the Center for Judicial Renewal is effectively renewing America’s judiciary.
