A prayer for morality

Lord Jesus, we approach You in prayer, with humility, seeking forgiveness for where our nation has committed unrighteousness. We recognize that You have “made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation” (Acts 17:26).

We desire to maximize our nation for Your glory and to be 揳 city on a hill” that leads other nations to become a “nation whose God is the Lord” (Matthew 5:14; Psalm 33:12).

It is obvious that we, as a nation, have “suppress[ed] the truth in unrighteousness” and experienced a moral decline that leads to judgment (Romans 1:18). Help us, as Americans, to turn from our wicked ways so that we may be blessed by choosing Your ways above our fleshly desires (2 Chronicles 7:14).

We confess our nation’s sins of immorality: Please forgive us for redefining marriage. Please forgive us for murdering the unborn. Please forgive us for taking what does not rightfully belong to us. Please forgive us for telling countless lies. Ultimately, please forgive us for mocking You and attempting to remove You from our nation’s heritage. You alone are “the only true God,” Maker of Heaven and Earth (John 17:3; Psalm 146:6).

We are grateful for Your undeserved kindness toward us. We are blessed by Your grace that restrains evil for the good of this nation. Help us to understand that we should never take Your goodness for granted. Give us a desire to turn our eyes and our hearts toward You.
