The Ten Commandments Project continues to encourage gifted youth and children to share truth powerfully and directly.

An eleven-year-old young man gave a speech that speaks clearly to the heart of any believer. In his touching speech, he challenges all of us to always put God first in all that we do.

The gifts, talents, and anointing upon our children are great and can be used to glorify the Lord and build the kingdom of God.

Ten Commandments Speech Challenge

Thomas Parmer

11 Years Old

Hello, my name is Thomas Parmer. I am eleven years old. I am going to tell you what the second commandment means to me. The second commandment says, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image...”

To me, that just speaks to me because anything can become an idol, anything. Playing sports, video games, phones, TV, or even sleep. A lot of people will say, “Oh, I can miss one sermon to watch a football game” or “I can miss one sermon to sleep.” In reality, the more you miss church, the easier it gets, and you start to get into the rhythm of missing church.

Church and the Bible are two of the best things that God has given us, and we just throw our Bibles in the back window of our cars or choose to not attend church. We stop worshipping God and build up our idols. We make a lot of stuff our idols. A lot of people go fishing on Sundays or wash their boats, go to casinos, wax their cars, wash their motorcycles, wash their house…the list just goes on and on. Some people set their eyes and hearts on money, alcohol, and other things.

In 1 Kings 18, it talks about the idols of Baal. Elijah said, “Let’s make two altars. One is for Baal, and one is for God.” They took two bulls, and Elijah let Baal’s prophets pick first, so they did. Then they doused each altar in water, and God struck fire down from heaven on Elijah’s altar. That just goes to show how God can do miracles and idols are false. God is a jealous God. He is first. He is the only God.

In 1 Samuel 5:1-5, it talks about how Dagon fell on its face twice and was bowing to the Ark of the Covenant.

What a great God, God is. What we need to do is have our eyes set on God. He is the one true God, and no one or thing compares to Him.
