It is our privilege once again to feature a speech shared by one of this year’s participants in the Ten Commandments Project Speech Challenge.

The Ten Commandments Project continues to be a very encouraging and exciting youth discipleship project here at AFA that helps to highlight the gifts, graces, and abilities of our children and youth.

May we, the church, be wise enough to put our children and youth to work in the church much more in many ways to faithfully build the Kingdom of God.

The Ten Commandments Project 2026 Speech by Kylie Frank, age 12

The second commandment states that you should not have an idol for yourself. An idol is a physical image or statue that represents a god or deity and is worshipped. Some examples of an idol are the golden calf, Baal, Asherah, Molech, teraphim, and Dagon. These are some of the idols mentioned in the Bible. The Bible tells us to have no idols and to worship only God. This means that no matter the temptation, you will always put God first. Although putting God first can be challenging, it is good for your spiritual health. I have also learned that it strengthens your relationship with God and helps you with day-to-day temptations.

The second commandment shows that it does not matter if your friends or relatives don’t believe in God and instead worship false gods; you should always turn to the true God and do what is right. In Exodus 20:3-6, it says, “Do not have other gods besides me. Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.”

Although it may be tempting, God should be the only one you bow down to and worship. Idols can also be objects that you choose over God, like a phone, a video game, an iPad, and many other things, like books, and even board games. Most people don’t realize they have an idol. Usually, people deny it when they are accused of having an idol and even try to go a day without it. Although some have been successful in going a day without an idol they adore, most have failed and gone back to their objects. We are reminded daily of God’s presence in our lives, and even though we have never seen Him, we are living proof of His creation and should worship God alone, without idols.

The following is a prayer that Kylie prayed when she was on our radio broadcast, “The Hour of Intercession.”

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to come here and read your Word. I want to pray that those who are listening will hear this and feel closer to you. I pray for the kids my age who are struggling with putting God first. Amen.
