84% of US adults: ‘the right to freedom of religion is extremely important to the country’s identity as a nation’

TUPELO, Miss. — A new poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs research found that the majority of U.S. adults agree that the core values of the right to vote, the right to privacy, and the right to equal protection under the law are very important to the United States’ identity — 84% feel the same way regarding freedom of religion. This common agreement among the population comes as a shock, as the country is in a time of extreme partisanship leading up to the 2024 election. While the majority of Americans agree on these core values, the ways in which they see achieving the American dream are not something that they all agree upon.

American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) President Tim Wildmon says while it is encouraging to see Americans agree on the nation’s core values, defenders of the nation’s Constitutional liberties must remain in a united front to stop ‘progressives’ from restricting these freedoms.

“The God-given freedoms that the U.S. Constitution protects have always been the foundation stones upon which our political and economic prosperity have rested,” says Wildmon. “It is encouraging to see widespread agreement regarding the importance of these liberties. But details matter, and ‘progressives’ continue to chip away at our long-standing interpretations of those critical freedoms, wanting to restrict so-called hate speech, for example, especially if it’s rooted in religious expression. True defenders of Constitutional liberties –– whatever their political perspectives –– must remain united in that defense.”
