Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
Believers would be wise to heed the words above from Deuteronomy where it concerns the Word of God in our homes.
God speaks through His Word all the time wherever it is found. The Word of God has the power to point people to Christ and influence people for good, no matter where you may see or find it. Generously using the Word of God in your daily life is a very wise and fruitful way to live. You will point people to Christ continually.
In your own home, all who live or visit there will see and observe whatever it is you have adorning the walls and interior. Whatever pictures, posters or items you have displayed on shelves and in cabinets, those who enter your home notice.
…for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring' (Acts 17:28).
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life (John 6:63).
We are wise to fill and decorate our homes with the Word. Clothing, T-shirts, jewelry, pictures, plaques, posters in your home and on your job are platforms on which to share God's Word.
There is no place where having God’s Word on display is inappropriate. His Word, blesses, guides, inspires, and influences us in our lives all the time.
"Well if I do that, people will think that I'm a radical," some may say. And you are probably correct.
A faithful disciple of Christ is going to be a radical – for Christ. And why not? We are all radicals about something. It is worth being radical for Christ and His kingdom.
Some people are radical about sports. They may spend a lot of time, energy, and money to travel to and attend football or basketball or baseball games. They may skip opportunities to do many other things because watching and/or attending sports events is very important to them. They buy jerseys and other clothing items, and they decorate their homes and their cars and trucks with sports “treasures.”
A lot of people do this and the world thinks nothing is out of the ordinary.
Yet there is no greater cause than for us who know Christ to share Him and God’s Word. Let’s be radical for Him and His kingdom.
We are encouraging every believer to get a copy of the 10 Commandments and put them on display prominently in your home, at work, and wherever else the Lord impresses you to do so. For information about how you can get a copy from AFA, you can contact us here at the American Family Association at email@example.com or call us at 1-662-844-5036, Ext. 381.
The Word of God is supposed to be very much at work in our lives every day. It should flow through and fill our thinking. It's not a burden but a blessing and a privilege to have it thoroughly at work in our lives.
So one final “radical” idea is to read and meditate on God’s precious Word every day. A goal of reading no less than three chapters a day encourages God’s Spirit to continually burn brightly and passionately within you (1 Corinthians 3:16). This is a great way to “decorate and fill the walls and halls” of your mind and heart with the wonderful and powerful Word of God.
