For the Christmas season, Kohl’s delivers a new ad featuring an insinuated f-bomb. The advertisement features actress Ellie Kemper, AKA “Kohl’s Mom,” and includes Giannis Antetokounmpo (NBA player).
Feeling the stress of gift shopping, Giannis discusses his Christmas situation with Kohl’s Mom. While attempting to assemble a dollhouse, his thumb is wounded. With a guilty conscience, he admits that he used the “elf” word in response.
The elf word is an obvious play on words. Kohl’s Mom asks Giannis to confirm what he said. She admonishes his poor action, declaring, “Santa’s gonna be so mad.” Immediately, viewers recognize the implication made.
It is unnecessary to hint at profanity in any commercial, especially the f-word in a Christmas ad. It is extremely irresponsible because everyone knows children repeat what they hear.
Supporters have submitted many complaints about the use of insinuated profanity. It is extremely disrespectful to families. Kohl’s needs to be held accountable!
If you agree this marketing campaign is inappropriate, please sign our petition urging Kohl’s to cancel “The Elf Word” ad immediately.
