Today it seems as though many are building their houses on the beach. Initially, that sounds great. A beach home with an ocean view. It doesn’t get much better than that. But what about the foundations for homes built on the beach? It would not take long for the sand and tides to wreak their havoc at the base of the homes putting everything and everyone inside in tremendous jeopardy.

America was founded on the solid rock of God’s Word by people of faith and integrity. The Founding Fathers had a clear and basic understanding of what a God-honoring country should look like. From the Mayflower Compact to the Declaration of Independence to the Constitution, they laid the foundation for a Christian society.

In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus says,

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

The American Family Association’s ministry was built on that same solid foundation mentioned by Matthew. Beginning in his living room during the late 1970’s the Rev. Donald Wildmon felt called to do something to stem the tide of godlessness in this country. He formed the National Federation for Decency in 1977 (later renamed American Family Association). The first call to action was for all families to turn off their televisions for a week.

Fast forward more than 40 years and we are still calling Christians across America to take action and stand for biblical truth. As most of you know there is a culture war raging now between good and evil and AFA is doing its part to help America win the battle.

For some time now our nation has thrived as her churches have sent out countless foreign missionaries. Today we are still responsible for the majority of foreign mission work. Yet our homeland is growing dim. Unfortunately, I believe it is fair to say the church in America bears some responsibility for our spiritual decline today. In many cases, our pulpits have grown quiet concerning the issues gripping our nation and dragging it down.

On a more encouraging note, in Ephesians 6:10-12 Paul says,

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

In the midst of this spiritual battle, we must put our trust and hope in the one thing that never changes, Christ Jesus.
