There is no shortage of opinions about marriage. Everyone has a take, and it can get pretty noisy out there. In this episode of By Design, Walker and Lexie Wildmon cut through the noise and get back to the source, taking a close look at what Jesus actually said about marriage in Matthew 19 and what that means for us today.

One of Walker's central points is that love, as wonderful as it is, isn't enough on its own to hold a marriage together. A lasting marriage needs a foundation built on Scripture and shared faith. To help make that case, Walker walks through four books that have genuinely shaped how he thinks about marriage and family.

The first is Gary Chapman's Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married. Right out of the gate, Chapman challenges the idea that being "in love" is a solid enough foundation for a lifelong commitment. Walker found this refreshing and honest, and he shares how that first chapter alone reframes the whole conversation around what a healthy marriage actually requires.

Walker also recommends Chapman's The Five Love Languages for Men, which digs into how people give and receive love in different ways. Walker gets personal here, talking about how learning his wife's love language made a real difference in their relationship. It's practical, it's relatable, and it's the kind of insight that sticks with you.

From there, Walker moves into You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity by Francis and Lisa Chan. This one zooms out and asks a bigger question: what if your marriage wasn't just about the two of you, but about glorifying God and making disciples together? Walker encourages listeners to think about how their marriage can serve a purpose beyond their own happiness.

The last book, First Time Dad by John Fuller, broadens the conversation to include parenting. Walker's point is simple but important: marriage and parenting aren't separate tracks. They overlap, and both require intentionality and a commitment to raising your family on biblical values.

Whether you're married, engaged, or just thinking ahead, this episode has something for you.
