For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6, KJV).

Let us delight this Christmas season in the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The word “Christmas” is not in the Bible, but the story of Christmas is found throughout Scripture. The Bible reveals that the birth of Christ was honored and celebrated by both angels and humans, even though the Bible makes no mention of Christmas. The word “Christmas” has its origin in the Old English term “Cristes Maesse,” which literally means “Christ’s Mass.” Although Christ is commonly used as Jesus’ name, it is actually a title. It comes from a Greek word that means “Anointed One” (the Hebrew word for this concept is “Messiah”). Since Christmas is, as we all know, a celebration of the day Christ was born, the Bible celebrates Christmas. However, it celebrates much more than that: Christmas celebrates Christ’s death and resurrection. These are the very reasons why Christ came.

Jesus is our only real hope!

The birth of Jesus is worth celebrating, but the resurrection is the reason He was sent. It is the finale of the Christmas story.

“Jesus was not born to stay in a manger; He was born to go to the cross.” – Ruth Chou Simons

The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Jesus gave His all, so we could have it all one day – if we choose to accept His gift of eternal life in heaven. I cannot think of a better gift!

God sent us the ultimate Christmas gift!

“Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world.

The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life.” – Corrie ten Boom

Truly, Jesus is and always will be the reason for the season. He is my reason; I pray He is yours.

Have a blessed Christmas and enjoy God’s richest blessings in 2024!
