Atheists. Communists. Homosexuals. Satanists. Cross-dressing radicals. Mockers. They all came to destroy a young Christian’s outreach.
But it didn’t work.
Jamie Sanchez is our brother in Christ. He is also one of the most courageous young men I know of.
Jamie opened The Drip Café coffee shop in Denver as part of a compassion and discipleship outreach to the homeless.
Jamie’s ministry—called Recycle God’s Love—gets people off the streets, brings them to Christ, and disciples them. For some of them, he provides a job in The Drip Café.
But soon after he opened The Drip Café, local God-hating radicals read the doctrinal statement of Jamie’s church. It said that sex outside of one man, one woman marriage was a sin.
The radicals declared, in their words, “SPIRITUAL WAR” on Jamie.
More than 100 loud, hate-filled protestors crowded the sidewalk and street outside The Drip’s entrance in the trendy, popular “Art Walk” district.
They were chanting . . . screaming . . . spitting on Jamie’s windows . . . handing out literature . . . scaring away customers . . . telling people not to patronize The Drip because Jamie was filled with “hate.”
The crowds had men dressed like women . . . people with faces and bodies painted . . . T-shirts attacking Christ . . . propaganda tables . . . LGBTQ Pride flags. . . loudspeakers . . . and vile chalk messages on the sidewalk.
Up to two times a week, radicals stationed themselves outside the door saying, “Don’t go in there! Don’t patronize The Drip. They hate gay people!”
Local Denver News TV gave favorable coverage to the anti-Christian mobs. Block after block was covered with flyers stating, “Drip Café is anti-gay,” and other attacks. One poster, plastered all over the street displayed:
“DEATH to All Who Stand in the Way of Freedom for Queer People”
Jamie told AFA’s documentary filmmakers,
“I would be in the café, and without even seeing them show up, I could feel the darkness. Then I would look outside, and they’re showing up. Super demonic. They don’t deny that they’re Satanic. They have it on their shirts. They read, ‘Hail Satan.’ They’re not afraid to show that. You can feel the demonic presence when they show up.”
Hateful voices called The Drip before they opened each day: “You should die.” “Leave.” “We hate you.” “You’re not welcome in Denver.” Every day, all day.
But remarkably, God was doing His work.
Local believers and churches rallied to the defense of The Drip!
Faithful Christians, like the biblical men of Issachar “who had understanding of the times” (1 Chronicles 12:32) came to The Drip, held Bible studies, fellowshipped, and conducted ministry—and made sure the devil would NOT force it out!
Praise God! Don’t you love to see believers take such action?
Because of that, two years later, The Drip is a base of flourishing ministry.
As Jamie envisioned, Recycle God’s Love is getting people off the streets and off of addictions . . . making disciples . . . and offering jobs at The Drip Café. In fact, the ministry and the business are stronger after enduring the hate campaign!
So why am I telling you Jamie’s amazing story?
Because it concerns you and every Christian in America.
Like Jamie and his team, you and I are to stand strong for Christ no matter the abuse, hardship, and sacrifice we must endure. We are all targets. But we will never back down due to threats. Never.
We are in a spiritual war for America today—and you and I are called to stand! . . . to expose evil. To teach and promote biblical truth without compromise. To encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ even when things seem dark.
We are called to stand and that requires sacrifice and courage.
