Not a Protester in Pink

On February 19, 2019, I wrote a blog about my family watching the SOTU together for the first time (SOTU from a Child’s View). At that point, my boys were ages 9, 8, 6, and 5 months. They were rambunctious and filled with questions, so we asked them to settle down and be quiet, because we truly wanted to listen. They eventually fell asleep and the next day I felt terribly guilty for not taking their questions seriously and allowing that to be a learning experience. During our homeschool the next day, I took the time to watch it with them again and answer their questions.

On February 6, 2020, I wrote another blog about watching the SOTU with my family (Pray for Pelosi) and the observations my sons made. At that point, I had 5 boys.

Currently, we have 5 boys and 1 girl. Due to a lack of time, I’ve not written about any other SOTU events, but as our family grows and our children age, we continue to watch all events that are important to our country whether it be a funeral for a former president, election night results, inaugurations, presidential debates, etc. Regardless of which political party is represented, we stop what we are doing, turn the volume up high, and stay up as late as we need to in order to take part in that moment in history.

Tuesday night was no different. We had a thousand other things going on, but once the countdown to President Trump’s Address to Congress began, all eight of us began making our way to the living room. My older children (ages 15, 14, and 12) recognize many of the faces now, understand the etiquette, and are fully engaged. The little ones (6,4, and 1) are as loud and rambunctious as their brothers once were, yet everyone still has questions.

“Why are they holding signs? They look like they are at an auction.”

“Why is the man with the cane so angry? Why won’t he settle down?”

“Why are the Democrat women wearing pink?”

“Will Pelosi always be angry? When will she retire?”

“Why can’t the military men stand and clap?”

“Why is Elizabeth Warren on her phone?”

 “Who is Pocahontas?”

“Why won’t the camera show the Democrats so we can see who is heckling?”

“How can the Democrats not stand for a child with cancer? Do they hate America that much?”

Although Matthew and I simply have no explanations for many of these questions, I did Google why the Democrat ladies were wearing pink this year. According to CBS News, pink was chosen to display defiance against the president. The leader of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez said that pink signifies “our protest of Trump’s policies which are negatively impacting women and families.”

In a 2024 statement, the group also said, “Our message is clear: women must be able to access the health care they need to control their own lives and futures. That means women, not politicians, should be in charge of whether, when, and how to start or grow their families. That includes access to birth control, access to abortion, and access to IVF.”

Now, this is where my questions begin.

What about Payton McNabb? She was honored by President Trump during his address because she was injured by a transgender opponent during a volleyball game. This left her with a concussion, brain bleed, permanent whiplash, partial paralysis, vision problems, and the inability to play the sport she loved ever again. These women in pink claim to stand in power. What if this American girl hadn’t been able to stand back up because of their push to allow men to overtake women’s sports?

What about Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee and Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo? These two American women were senselessly killed in Kabul under the Biden administration in one of the deadliest days for American forces during the 20-year war in Afghanistan. Didn’t they deserve a future? Who was protecting them? Didn’t President Trump announce that the top terrorist behind the Abby Gate attack was apprehended so he could face the ‘swift sword of American justice?’ How could they remain seated for that?

What about Riley Gaines and all the other female American athletes who were allowed to have their records, scholarships, and once in a lifetime opportunities stolen from them because of the leftist agenda’s discriminatory gender policies?

What about Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray? These two young girls were both brutally tortured and murdered under the Biden administration and his inept border policies. Didn’t they deserve to have families of their own?

Their grieving mothers and sister were in attendance. Do they count as women? Which administration were they negatively impacted under? Why could the pink protesters not have the decency to stand in respect for American women who buried their innocent young girls? Do they have intentions for standing for all American women or a select group of women at their discretion?

It seems to me, that President Trump, though he is imperfect like the rest of us, is doing what he can to stand with and for all American women. In fact, he is doing more for women and their rights than anyone ever has in my lifetime.

Yet, Rep Teresa Leger Fernandez also told CBS News, “He costs us too much in terms of money, health, lives, and safety. From cradle to old age, this man and the Republican agenda are devastating for America’s women. We want the world to know we stand in protest, we stand in power. We stand in pink, and we stand in opposition.”

Ironically, this man fought for the rights of countless babies to have the opportunity to experience a cradle.

By combatting toxic ideologies and indoctrination in the school system, our little girls (and boys) don’t have to be devastated by confusion or sexually mutilated. Instead, his message to them is “you are perfect just the way God made you.”

By seeking to eliminate poisons in our foods that potentially cause cancer and other diseases, hopefully fewer children will have to face that battle. Those efforts may also expose additional toxins that cause infertility issues to our American young women, thereby helping those women whose dream is to become a mother become a reality.

By closing the borders and restoring law and order, he is protecting women and young girls from abuse, rape, murder, drugs, and trafficking from criminals who have no place in our nation.

By showing respect and appreciation for law enforcement, he is providing reliable protectors for women and young girls and cleaning up our cities and streets so that we can live without fear lurking around every corner.

By balancing the American budget, he is saving us money, not costing us money. He is attempting to put our nation back on a path to fiscal responsibility, so that our future generations are not burdened by even more national debt than what already exists, or being threatened by national security issues that could arise.

By balancing the powers in our country, he is trying to provide a way we can work together for the good of all American men and women without a select few seeking to dictate what is best for their agenda or pocketbook.

My one voice will never reach the world or the president, but if it could, I would personally thank this man who has been ridiculed, politically persecuted, despised, and hunted. He is only a man, yet he has endured more than any human in recent history in order to make “common sense a common theme,” restore justice, hold the government accountable, uphold truth, and protect women.

I absolutely believe he was saved by God to offer our nation a reprieve, and give us as Christians the opportunity to restore biblical morality in this land. Although Genesis 50:20 was spoken by Joseph I think it applies to him and the ones who have relentlessly plotted against him, as well. “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.”

Mr. President, those in pink do not represent me. I do not stand in protest of you, but kneel in prayer for you and rejoice for the gains you are making. Thank you for being a promise keeper, not just a promise maker. Thank you for standing for me and for my daughter, the unborn, the female athletes, the impressionable children in schools, the heroes in the military, the law abiding citizens, and all American women. Thank you for restoring the freedoms my grandfathers and husband fought for. Thank you for loving America. God bless you and God bless America!
