The appointment of conservative federal judges is one of the surest ways America can be returned to its constitutional foundation. However, constitutionally minded lawmakers are often lagging behind their liberal counterparts when it comes to getting these judges appointed. Thanks to a new initiative from the American Family Association (AFA), that trend is changing.
One of my recent guests on The Stand Radio was Phillip Jauregui, Senior Counsel and Director of the Center for Judicial Renewal (CJR) - a division of AFA Action. He described how, according to Article III of the Constitution, the judiciary's role is to decide cases based on laws passed by Congress, not to exercise legislative power. However, in recent decades, courts have increasingly taken on legislative functions, a trend the CJR is helping reverse.
Phillip told me how their focus is on proactive engagement in the judicial nomination process. Instead of waiting for vacancies and reacting to potential nominees, the organization conducts extensive research to identify and vet candidates who align with constitutional principles and Christian values. This involves evaluating a potential nominee’s judicial philosophy, worldview, personal background, and evidence of courage – the willingness to follow through on these convictions.
The goal is to influence the two key decision-makers in judicial appointments: the President and the Senate. This information is also shared with allied organizations and grassroots supporters to increase its impact.
Despite the challenges, Philip expressed optimism about the future of the judiciary. He likens the Supreme Court to the prodigal son, slowly returning to its rightful place. While there is still work to be done, he believes that the court is heading in the right direction, thanks to ongoing efforts and prayers.
I hope you will take a few moments to listen to my interview with Phillip Jauregui and learn how you can use their research to help restore America’s judiciary. It is a battle worth fighting, and the Center for Judicial Renewal is leading the way.
