In an interview with Fox News on January 24, Louisiana Republican state senator, John Kennedy, compared the current state of the country’s southern border, to an athletic program that failed to deliver favorable stats.

“I think it’s time for the American people to wake up and smell the incompetence. I mean, the border is wide open. And as I’ve said before, that’s manmade and the man’s name is Joe Biden. How could I put this? If the White House were a football team and performed like this, we would’ve already fired the coach, the athletic director, and the mascot. Americans want better and it keeps getting worse.”

As a result of a request filed by the Biden Administration and after a closely divided Supreme Court ruling, Border Patrol agents in Texas were allowed to cut down and remove razor wire that had been installed by the Texas National Guard in an effort to thwart illegal crossing.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to hold the line in a statement released on Wednesday:

“The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States. The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them. The result is that he has smashed records for illegal immigration …

“Under President Biden’s lawless border policies, more than 6 million illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border in just 3 years. That is more than the population of 33 different States in this country. This illegal refusal to protect the States has inflicted unprecedented harm on the People all across the United States.”

In response to the SCOTUS ruling, 25 Republican governors have openly expressed their support for Texas and Governor Abbott in a joint statement released Thursday afternoon that states:

“President Biden and his Administration have left Americans and our country completely vulnerable to unprecedented illegal immigration pouring across the Southern border. Instead of upholding the rule of law and securing the border, the Biden Administration has attacked and sued Texas for stepping up to protect American citizens from historic levels of illegal immigrants, deadly drugs like fentanyl, and terrorists entering our country.

“We stand in solidarity with our fellow Governor, Greg Abbott, and the State of Texas in utilizing every tool and strategy, including razor wire fences, to secure the border. We do it in part because the Biden Administration is refusing to enforce immigration laws already on the books and is illegally allowing mass parole across America of migrants who entered our country illegally.”

With Texas included, this means that 26 of the 50 – or more than half of – American state governors are standing in solidarity for the border to be secured at all costs. Signatories include all but one GOP governor, Phill Scott of Vermont who voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election. No surprise there.

In an interview with Fox News, current Texas Senator and former Solicitor General for the state, Ted Cruz was asked if this was a “Come and take it, Alamo moment,” Cruz responded firmly, “Absolutely. We’re defending Texas and defending this country.”

Other politicians have moved for the impeachment of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. In a tweet, Georgia State Representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene motioned for just that:

“We are going to impeach Mayorkas immediately.

I’m proud to have forced the floor vote on my Mayorkas articles of impeachment which now are being shaped and marked up in our Homeland Committee.

Now that 25 Governors are standing with Texas, the Biden admin must cease its efforts to continue its illegal invasion.”

Among those arm in arm with Governor Abbott is U.S. House Speaker, Mike Johnson, who referred to the pending Bipartisan Senate Border Plan as “dead on arrival.”

More to come as the story unfolds in Texas. Until then, we must be actively in prayer for GOP leaders as they stand up against the White House.
