We’re on an unfortunate path.
If we don’t do something to protect women’s sports the No. 1 “Back in my day” story for aspiring grandads will be, “Back in my day the girls had their own teams.”
“Pops, what are you talking about? You know the girls’ teams have those hairy players too,” will be the bewildered response.
It sounds far-fetched, but who would have thought we’d be where we are in 2023, that we would be eager to trash decades of government-led efforts to create equal opportunities for girls and women in athletic competition?
Now we’re scared to just say no, to tell an incredibly small amount of the population that their personal choices do not override normality and determine how institutions are run.
The numbers say that 1.03% of Americans identify as transgender, but 50.49% of Americans are biologically female.
Yet many decision-makers in local school districts are OK with watching young men suit up in female sports apparel and squash the championship dreams of young women.
That’s tragic, but lost championships are just a small part of the program. These administrators are putting college scholarships at risk for many young women. Worst of all, they’re putting them in danger.
Payton McNabb, a volleyball player in North Carolina, was competing with her team and trying to earn a scholarship in the fall of 2022. Six months later she testified before state legislators and told them she still suffered from physical and mental trauma after a biological male leaped higher than girls can leap and spiked the ball harder, faster, and with more force than girls can muster. When it struck McNabb in the face she crumpled to the floor.
Some stories make you cry. The Daily Wire is hoping change can come from a story that makes you laugh.
The conservative media outlet unveiled (figuratively) its Lady Ballers movie to big numbers in November.
Lady Ballers tells the story of a down-on-his-luck high school basketball coach, who, with the help of his daughter who has recently been educated about the transgender lifestyle, figures out that aided by inept male players, he might have a chance to rebrand his team in a girls league and find elusive success.
The Daily Wire made Lady Ballers because Hollywood wouldn’t touch the topic, Michael Knowles said.
Lady Ballers was written, directed, and produced – with some assistance - by Jeremy Boreing, the co-founder and co-CEO of DailyWire+, and its cast is comprised mostly of Daily Wire staff.
Its goal is to highlight the absurdity of biological men competing in women’s sports, something no traditional studio would do, Knowles, a Daily Wire show host and columnist, said on American Family Radio .
“It’s not that only the Daily Wire could ever have made this movie. In fact, 15 years ago, even 10 years ago, any Hollywood studio would have been clamoring to make this movie because the cultural fact is so insane. We now have hulking, gigantic men competing against women in sports, and surprise, surprise, they’re winning all the trophies because men are physically much stronger and faster than women,” Knowles told show host Jenna Ellis.
“That’s a funny premise for a movie, but Hollywood wouldn’t touch it. We’re the only company that could make the movie, so we did.”
Early reviews were great for Ballers from viewers, but there was less enthusiasm from “professional” movie critics.
“My favorite criticism from a left-wing reviewer who has seen it was that the conservatives here are undercutting their own argument. One of the jokes of the movie is that no one wants to watch women’s sports. Then all of a sudden the men start competing, and all of a sudden people start paying attention to it, and it becomes much more physically exciting, much more violent. This reviewer said, ‘You guys say you’re defending women’s sports, but you’re actually attacking women’s sports,’ by suggesting that women aren’t as good at sports,” Knowles said.
Knowles said the Left has missed or refuses to admit the point, which is justice.
“I think these left-wing reviewers are playing themselves here. I think they’ve totally missed the point of the movie which is no one cares about women’s sports. We care in the sense that if our daughters are playing a sport we don’t want to see them cheated of their trophies. We care in the sense that the whole point of establishing women’s sports is that they can play their own games and not have to compete against men to whom they will lose.
“There are very few issues in public life today that are a more glaring example of injustice than some giant dude taking away a trophy from a girl who’s trained her whole life,” Knowles said.
Knowles is on the money. The injustice in a physically superior opponent who for years did not meet the biological requirements to compete in your league suddenly winning your trophies and championships is undeniable.
But why do so many Democrats endorse it? Apparently, all Democrats do not support that position, but when it comes time to cast a vote in places that matter – like Congress – they stand united.
The House passed a “Save Women’s Sports” bill in April with zero votes from Democrats.
Three months later a Time Magazine online article suggested that Democrat support for guys on girls' teams is slipping.
The reality is politicians on both sides of the aisle understand this is wrong. Democrats who refuse to define “woman” when testifying before Congress or pressed in an interview actually do understand what a woman is. They know.
The other thing they know is that they’re all in with their political party because the party is their path to power.
This is not about a fiercely held belief that acquiescing to the gender-confused actually helps these people. A better example of love and compassion for this group is to lead them to the necessary professional services to gain peace with their own gender.
The ability to increase financial gain, to advance in a career and hold onto life’s comforts or to simply satisfy the longings some humans have to exert control over others – it all comes back to power – this is why many Democrats on a public stage refuse to define a woman.
For many, power to control the people is more important than serving the people.
