You shall not murder (Exodus 20:13).
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed 9 Yes speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice (Proverbs 31:8-9 NLT).
Recently I was reading an article that was written in support of the issue of abortion. It used the term “safe abortion.”
Safe abortion – What does this phrase mean? Or maybe a better question is – what is it meant to convey when spoken?
Let’s define the two words of this phrase.
A definition of “safe” is “protected from or not exposed to danger or risk; not likely to be harmed or lost.”
Another definition of “safe” is “free from harm or risk: unhurt. 2. a.: secure from threat of danger, harm, or loss.
Then, the second word is abortion – what is its definition?
“Abortion” – means “the deliberate taking of the life of a baby in her mother’s womb.”
Another definition of abortion is “the murdering of a baby before he or she is born.”
So the phrase – safe abortion - appears to speak of a “safe method of killing a human baby.”
What?
What could such a phrase possibly mean?
Sadly, it’s a phrase meant to deceive and mislead.
There is no “safe” method of taking the life of a human being. Likewise, there is no way to murder a human being without harming him or her.
A related point is – there is no right way to do wrong.
There is no such thing as a “safe” abortion – period. One of the many reasons for this is the reality that when abortion is carried out, one hundred percent of the time, a human being dies.
And sadly, in some cases, more than the baby dies.
We live in a world full of deceptive words, phrases, and concepts that are conveyed through many forms of media every day.
Reproductive healthcare – what is that?
Abortion, as harsh as it may sound – is actually first-degree murder. It’s the planned murder of an innocent human being.
When the word “abortion” is changed to phrases such as reproductive health, a woman’s right to choose, or a human right – none of these words change the reality of what is being carried out.
And when did people start to classify murder as a form of healthcare?
Abortion still murders an innocent child. These terms simply sound nicer or more pleasant. They don’t sound quite so “harsh” when someone says them.
Yet sadly, the result is the same - an innocent life is snuffed out.
How important it is that we, the church, seek to speak the truth in love boldly.
Abortion is wrong and it always will be. Again, there is no right way to do wrong.
In the midst of all of these truths, we are not to despair.
Be mindful that we serve a merciful heavenly Father. His Word tells us:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
If we confess and repent our sin, Christ will forgive us and set us free.
Christ is ready to forgive, heal, and restore all who come to Him.
In a world full of deception and lies and darkness, may we, the church, always read and know the truth.
And may we always faithfully seek, in love, to proclaim that truth to a world that clearly needs to hear it and be transformed by it.
