The left is on a collision course...with itself.
In America, the liberal’s ideological ship is headed straight for an iceberg, and it is completely by their own doing.
This has never been more obvious than right now during the Democratic primary election. The left has a set of beliefs that obsesses over appeasing everyone. They assert that there is no one truth, no single moral law, and that everyone and everything should just be accepted as good and right.
The problem with this mentality is unavoidable. The thing about truth is that it naturally narrows down to a single possibility about what can be true. Two plus two can only equal four. But when you assert that two different things, two opposites, can both be true, then those two views will eventually go head to head, they’ll contradict, and you’ll have to choose one or the other.
If you spend years telling the American people that 2+2=4 and 2+2=5, eventually you’ll have to choose which one is right.
For the Democrats, I see 3 (and there could very well be more) of these “rubber meets the road” moments - where they’ll have to decide between two opposite viewpoints. This blog will start with number one (subsequent blogs will address the others).
The first collision is between transgenderism and feminism.
The Sides:
The left has fully supported the transgender movement.
Democratic presidential candidates, like Elizabeth Warren and Julián Castro, have listed their pronouns on their Twitter pages, affirming the need for people to self-identify what gender they are (since some have supposedly changed theirs). Warren wrote, “Everyone should have access to gender-affirming healthcare,” further supporting the choose-your-own-gender movement.
Joe Biden, the current Democratic front runner, tweeted: “Let’s be clear: Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time. There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.”
There’s no question - the left sides with transgenderism. It’s the new, supposedly popular wave that’s progressive and tolerant. It’s the type of bandwagon the left loves jumping on.
The left also claims to support feminism, which some would call the simple empowerment of women in the modern age to strive for achievement and success.
The Democrats put forth half a dozen women in the presidential primary this year, although none succeeded. Unlike last year, where the winner of the Democratic primary was indeed a woman, who went on to lose to Donald Trump in the general election.
Feminism tells us that “Women are special! They can do things that men can’t do! They are strong and they are capable!” I would agree with all of these claims.
However, transgenderism turns right around and says “Men and women are interchangeable. If you want, you can change your gender. There’s really nothing special, defining, or limiting about who you are, so you can change it if you want.”
The Collision:
In May of 2019, the Democrats passed a law called the Equality Act. This law was propped up as prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. However, the act enabled transgender women - biological males - to compete in female sports.
This resulted in biological boys competing in girl’s high school sports, such as one case in Connecticut where two biological boys outran female contestants in several high school track meets, disqualifying those female runners from advancing to regionals.
On February 29, another transgender woman named Megan Youngren became the first openly transgender athlete to compete in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Youngren is a biological male, running against females.
He finished 230th out of 390 contestants, so 229 real women outran him. Good for them.
But it won’t end there. This is just the beginning. What happens when some guy who’s built like Usain Bolt decides that he’s a girl and wants to run with the women? What happens when a college guy the size of LeBron James wants to play women’s college basketball at UConn?
What then?
One Elizabeth Warren tweet exclaimed: “I want every girl to grow up knowing that they can fight from the heart – and they can win.”
Unfortunately, her tweet didn’t address how girls should go about winning if the contestant in the next lane is 6 feet tall and has a beard.
Doriane Lambelet Coleman, a professor of law at Duke, spoke at a House Judiciary Committee hearing regarding the Equality Act:
“It will be the end of girl’s and women’s sport if we make simply gender identity the basis for eligibility for girls.”
These two views simply cannot coexist, and athletics is just the most obvious example.
Either women are special and should be championed as such (feminism), or there’s really no difference between men and women and they’re interchangeable (transgenderism), meaning there’s nothing unique about being a woman, thus destroying the feminist view.
Political correctness has doomed the Democratic Party to a life between a rock and a hard place.
