Government: "Parents, stay out of your child's sex life. We got it!"
“Who am I?” Who hasn’t asked this question during their teen years? Adolescents experience an often confusing period of intense analysis and exploration of their true selves – an identity crisis. That’s normal.
Love for our children compels us to guide them and protect them from making damaging and life altering decisions during this delicate period of their lives. That’s our job. And it’s getting more difficult with the barrage of secular influences attacking them from every side.
Many residents of Oregon are making an outrageous discovery about a policy passed by the Health Evidence Review Commission in January. Last weekFOX News cited the policy in a report titled “Oregon allowing 15-year-olds to get state-subsidized sex-change operations.”
How can this be when these same children are not legally allowed to utilize tanning beds, get a tattoo, smoke cigarettes, drive a car, or donate blood. For that matter, a public school student is unable to obtain aspirin from the school nurse without written parental permission.
While the policy does not specifically state a minor can secure gender reassignment surgery, it is all about the age of medical consent. In Oregon, it is 15.
Gender dysphoria treatments are now covered, and the state of Oregon is authorized to use taxpayer dollars to pay for the treatment through its Medicaid program. In the updated policy, covered treatments for gender dysphoria include psychotherapy, medical visits, medications to suppress puberty in gender questioning youth, and surgery.
SNOPES.com suggested the FOX report was unbalanced in accuracy and quoted Jenn Burleton, executive director of TransActive Gender Center in Portland, who indicated the idea of a 15-year-old walking into a doctor’s office and securing gender reassignment surgery without a parent’s consent is unrealistic. “It’s irrational,” she said. “It’s laughable.”
Well, yes it’s irrational! But that doesn’t change the fact that it is now possible in Oregon. A young, disadvantaged boy or girl on Medicaid can, with the “help” of a “compassionate” doctor, legally mutilate his or her body.
Decades ago, the idea of a young pregnant girl walking into an abortion clinic and having a surgery that would intentionally destroy the life of her child was completely unthinkable. Now half of the states do not require parental consent for minors on this either. Irrational – yes! Sorry – I cannot use the word “laughable,” as Burleton did, because none of this is funny.
The SNOPES piece included a statement by the Oregon Health Authority. I suppose it was meant to dispel the claim in some form or fashion:
“In Oregon, the age of medical consent is 15 or older. Patients should be able to demonstrate the capacity to make a fully informed decision and to give consent to treatment, regardless of age.” The statement went on to say “nothing in Oregon law requires a health care provider to provide medical services to a minor or safeguard the confidentiality of a minor. In most cases, providers will encourage (and in some cases require) family engagement and supports unless it would endanger the patient.” (Emphasis added.)
So essentially, this statement clarifies:
- A physician can refuse treatment to a minor.
- A physician is free to include parents in the decision if he or she chooses to do so.
- A 15-year-old can make a decision and follow through with treatment without the consent of the parents if the physician chooses this route.
Whether or not we can conceive it to be true or possible, a physician now has the legal right in Oregon to perform state-subsidized sex-change operations on 15-year-olds without involving the parents.
And last week, President Barack Obama condemned “conversion” or “reparative” therapy on Whitehouse.gov. Here’s the general idea: If your children want help out of same-sex attraction, the answer is “No – not an option!” But if they want to mutilate their bodies without your consent or knowledge, the answer is “Yes!” And taxpayers will pay the bill.
President Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett stated, “As part of our dedication to protecting America’s youth, this administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors.”
And in a May 4, 2015, Annual Report of the United Nations High Commissioner, the UN condemned “conversion therapy” practices and provided for gender self-identification documents for transgender citizens.
Your 15-year-old’s request to undergo sex reassignment surgery without your knowledge or consent is considered acceptable in today’s world. But don’t you dare try to give that same child the ability to secure help for unwanted same-sex attraction.
Are you getting the message when it comes to the rabid agenda to normalize homosexuality and gender identity confusion?
Here it is: “Parents, stay out of it! We got this!”
