THE STAND Blog is the place to find personal insights and perspectives from writers who respond to current cultural topics by promoting faith and defending the family.
THE STAND Magazine is AFA’s monthly publication that filters the culture’s endless stream of information through a grid of scriptural truth. It is chock-full of new stories, feature articles, commentaries, and more that encourage Christians to step out in faith and action.
TUPELO, Miss. — One of the most widely known Bible verses, John 3:16, has been seen across the country, including on camera in the end zone during football games. But a teacher in Loudoun County is now forbidden from using the verse in her email signature, despite First Amendment protections and recent Supreme Court rulings clearly sanctioning her right to exercise free speech. A demand letter sent to the Loudoun County School System states that by policy, the district permits personal expression through “pronouns, quotations, pictures, or phrases” which is being unfairly and inconsistently applied to the censored teacher.
American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano noted that this is yet another case of secularists ignoring the Constitution and the First Amendment when it comes to Christianity.
“The hostility of the secular left towards the Christian faith is chilling and clearly indicates where so-called ‘progressives’ want to take our nation,” Vitagliano said. “Moreover, we are unaware of similar discrimination against any other religion in America, making it obvious that secularists see Christianity as their main competitor for the hearts and minds of the people. They want to drive our faith into the shadows and punish any and all public expression of it. However, two millennia of history should inform the secularists that Christianity will outlive their hatred.”
For over 40 years, AFA has operated within the mission to inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission. Founded in 1977, AFA has long been on the front lines of America’s culture war. Today, AFA is one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country, with nearly a million online supporters and approximately 110,000 subscribers to The Stand (formerly known as the AFA Journal), the ministry’s monthly magazine. Find AFA Action Alerts here. In addition, AFA owns and operates nearly 180 radio stations across the country under the American Family Radio banner.
