THE STAND Blog is the place to find personal insights and perspectives from writers who respond to current cultural topics by promoting faith and defending the family.
THE STAND Magazine is AFA’s monthly publication that filters the culture’s endless stream of information through a grid of scriptural truth. It is chock-full of new stories, feature articles, commentaries, and more that encourage Christians to step out in faith and action.
TUPELO, Miss. — Another brave person in Georgia has learned that the federal government’s tyrannical approach to law enforcement attacking religious liberty and freedom of expression has permeated many local police departments. Jeffrey Gray filed suit this week after being arrested for standing in a public space holding a scribbled sign reading “God Bless the Homeless Vets.” The sergeant who arrested Gray in 2021 has since been promoted to Lieutenant. According to Gray’s lawsuit, Gray was standing in an open public space in front of the Port Wentworth City Hall, but was arrested for, as the police claim, being on private property.
American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano said Christians must be inspired by Gray’s example — or watch religious freedom in America disappear forever.
“The determination of leftists who are openly hostile to Christianity must be matched by the resolve of Christians who will not quietly submit to ‘progressive’ tyranny,” Vitagliano said. “In some respects, followers of Jesus Christ are not just standing up for their own religious liberty but for all of the constitutional freedoms we have enjoyed –– and, perhaps, taken for granted. The liberties that we have possessed for centuries are, in many parts of the country, in danger of being snatched out of our hands. Kudos to Jeffrey Gray –– and may his tribe increase.”
For over 40 years, AFA has operated within the mission to inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission. Founded in 1977, AFA has long been on the front lines of America’s culture war. Today, AFA is one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country, with nearly a million online supporters and approximately 110,000 subscribers to The Stand (formerly known as the AFA Journal), the ministry’s monthly magazine. Find AFA Action Alerts here. In addition, AFA owns and operates nearly 180 radio stations across the country under the American Family Radio banner.
