AFA: Christians must stand for free speech and sharing the Gospel or risk total silencing

TUPELO, Miss. — American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) is renewing its advocacy for free speech and sharing the Gospel following a recent survey showing a majority of Americans are now self-silencing because of deep fears about exercising their free speech rights for sharing personal religious and political views at work. The survey follows an appeal to the United States Supreme Court resulting from a benighted federal appeal ruling against a Christian mailman who requested to be off on Sundays.

The survey uncovered that three in five US employees said that even a respectful expression of “religious or political viewpoints would ‘likely or somewhat likely’ carry negative consequences at work.” AFA Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano says Americans must get the message — speak now, or forever bemoan the loss of First Amendment rights.

“These survey results reveal the chilling effect of the soft totalitarianism being slowly imposed by the radical, secular left on our nation,” Vitagliano said. “When people are afraid of retaliation for merely speaking about their most cherished beliefs, we are no longer a free people. But that’s what the radicals have intended all along. Their hostility toward religious freedom and true free speech is actually rooted in a hatred for the Constitution itself — that bulwark against oppressive groupthink, centralized authority, and the all-powerful state.”
