TUPELO, Miss. — As the Supreme Court considers the case Kennedy v. Bremerton — which covers the unlawful firing of high school assistant football coach Joe Kennedy in 2015 for praying after games on the 50-yard line — American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) is encouraging Christians to pray that the Court recognizes that the Constitution, specifically in the First Amendment, protects religious speech.

AFA’s Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano expressed hope the Court would hand down a constitutionally sound opinion.

Vitagliano commented, “Religious speech and free speech have been under fire almost everywhere in our society, and with this case the U.S. Supreme Court has a perfect opportunity to clarify the protections of the Constitution. Coach Joe Kennedy was well within his First Amendment rights to pray privately, even while in public. Just because this Christian man works for an increasingly secularized public school system does not mean he is a second-class citizen. AFA is encouraging supporters to pray for a high court ruling that protects religious liberty in America.”
