American Family Association Responds to “So-Called” Equality Act Legislation

TUPELO, Miss. — Last week, the Democratic led House passed The Equality Act—a bill, which passed by a vote of 224-206, that adds sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories in nondiscrimination law. The measure also strips away key religious liberty provisions and conscience protections specifically set forth in the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

 A new Gallup poll found that a record 5.6% of Americans—or 18 million people—are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. The poll attributed this significant increase to greater social acceptance. Examples include support for same-sex marriage, seeing Pete Buttigieg run as an openly gay presidential candidate and LGBT+ political candidates with historic wins. This poll conducted in 2020 showed a 24% rise from the last poll in 2017, when 4.5% of adults identified as LGBT+. The increase was largely driven by Generation Z adults—aged 18 to 23. Of those Gen. Z adults, 15.9% said they were LGBT+.

 “It is no surprise that the so-called Equality Act passed in the House, since that chamber is controlled by secular ‘progressives’ who are in love with the sexual revolution and the destruction that comes with it,” stated Ed Vitagliano, executive vice president of the American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net). “These sexual and gender radicals are in rebellion against the Creator and thus openly hostile to God’s created order. AFA intends to ask the Senate to stop this lunacy by refusing to pass this legislation, because the Equality Act will be used by the radical left to overthrow religious liberty in America in ways undreamt of by Christians, Jews and Muslims.

 “The polling results are to be expected as more and more children are being brainwashed in our public schools to embrace the sexual revolution and its radical take on human sexuality and gender. At every turn, these views are also reinforced by both corporate America and Hollywood. Meanwhile, many church leaders are either afraid to address these matters or ignorant of how to do so. The truth is desperately needed in this hour to counteract the lies of the radical left.”
