THE STAND Blog is the place to find personal insights and perspectives from writers who respond to current cultural topics by promoting faith and defending the family.
THE STAND Magazine is AFA’s monthly publication that filters the culture’s endless stream of information through a grid of scriptural truth. It is chock-full of new stories, feature articles, commentaries, and more that encourage Christians to step out in faith and action.
TUPELO, Miss. — Conservatives across the country are rejoicing as Texas has banned abortions performed after six weeks, or when the fetal heartbeat can first be detected. While some pro-abortion groups argue that this mandate goes against the infamous Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, the Supreme Court has yet to respond, indicating that the ruling will stand for the state of Texas. State abortion clinics have already reported that this ruling will cut down on at least 85% of abortions performed in Texas. While Republicans across America have attempted to enforce this approach in their own states, Texas is the first. Also, Texas has put in place a unique enforcement technique—instead of relying on officials to enforce the law, private citizens are authorized to sue abortion providers and anyone involved in facilitating abortions.
The decision is a huge win for the pro-life movement, something that the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) has not taken for granted. With the mission to bring America back to its moral and biblical foundation, AFA strongly advocates all life, even that in the womb, is made in the image of God and therefore must be cherished.
AFA Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano stated, “The Supreme Court allowed the Texas law to stand, and while that decision did not result in a ruling that overturns Roe v. Wade, it does make a number of things clear for the pro-life community. First, elections have consequences. The three justices appointed by President Donald Trump helped make this happen. Christians need to remember that when they are tempted to withdraw from the political arena. Second, the church needs to pray––and continue to pray––for abortion to end as a so-called constitutional right. This Texas case makes it seem like we’re very close to that possibility.
“Finally, whatever the final legal outcome, Planned Parenthood’s own numbers indicate that the Texas law will prevent more than 4,000 abortions a month in that state. For as long as that can last, we thank God that lives are being saved.”
AFA is dedicated to bringing the U.S. back to biblical basics. They have recently created “By Design” – a project to reintroduce America to the scriptural definition of marriage. “By Design” reclaims the truth of marriage and family as defined by God. The hope for “By Design” is to remind the American people that God’s plan is always perfect; He created a flawless design for marriage, and by adhering to and following His Word, human civilization can thrive while celebrating the true purpose of marriage and family.
For over 40 years, AFA has operated within the mission to inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission. Founded in 1977, AFA has long been on the front lines of America’s culture war. Today, AFA is one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country, with nearly a million online supporters and approximately 160,000 subscribers to the AFA Journal, the ministry’s monthly magazine. Find AFA Action Alerts here. In addition, AFA owns and operates nearly 180 radio stations across the country under the American Family Radio banner.
