American Family Association Condemns Justice Department Lawsuit Against Texas Over Recent Abortion Ban

TUPELO, Miss. — In response to the latest Texas abortion statute—which bans abortions performed after six weeks of conception, or when the fetal heartbeat can first be detected—the Justice Department sued the state, claiming that the mandate is “in open defiance of the Constitution.” The lawsuit argues that this new regulation infringes on the rights of women, many of whom are not even aware they are pregnant six weeks after conception. The lawsuit also argues against the unusual addendum included in the Texas law which leaves enforcement of the ruling to private citizens through civil lawsuits instead of criminal prosecutors, claiming that it encourages citizens to behave like “bounty hunters.”

For conservatives across America who have celebrated the Texas ruling—known as SB8—this lawsuit is a huge potential setback for the pro-life movement. For the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net), the controversy over SB8 makes the need for this law even greater. The pro-abortion lobby is as committed to their murderous ideology as the Nazis were to their hatred of Jews and the ‘final solution.’

“Pro-lifers must remain every bit as committed to the sanctity of human life and continue the fight in righteous determination. We cannot surrender these precious babies to the scalpel and the dumpster.”
