TUPELO, Miss. — A bill aimed at protecting female athletes competing in high school and college sports in Mississippi passed in the state House on Wednesday, March 3 by a vote of 81-28. The “Mississippi Fairness Act” would require any public school, public institution of higher learning, or an institution of higher learning that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, MHSAA or NJCCA to designate its athletic or sports teams according to biological sex.
“AFA has been a proud supporter of the MS Fairness Act—common sense legislation to protect girls’ sports,” stated Rob Chambers, Vice President for AFA Action (www.afaaction.net), a division of the American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net). “Females in public school sports are placed at a disadvantage when they are unfairly forced to compete against males who are scientifically proven to be stronger. Without this legislation in Mississippi, the state would be on the path of having only male sports and coed sports. Should Gov. Reeves sign the bill into law, girls’ sports in Mississippi will be preserved and protected.”
