AFA Speaks Out Against ‘Marxists Who Are Intent on Dismantling Our Republic’
TUPELO, Miss. — A Portland teacher has made the controversial decision to remove the American flag from her classroom, claiming that it represents “violence and menace and intolerance.” Gail Grobey, an English teacher at the local Newberg High School, argued that since the Newberg School Board decided to ban overtly political imagery such as LGBTQ+ and Black Lives Matter flags, she had the right to take down the American flag as well. The bold decision has been met with a large outcry from the local community, while the school district has yet to respond to the issue.
Even more damaging to the school are the recent reports of high school students participating in—or being targeted by—a social media group chat called “Slave Trade,” which joked about how much participants would pay for their Black classmates in a slave auction. In a letter addressed to understandably concerned and outraged parents, the school’s principal stated, “As a community, we continue to grapple with issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.”
In light of these troubling issues, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) Executive Vice President Ed Vitagliano stated, “There are sizeable segments of our country coming apart at the seams. In large part, this is due to Marxists who are intent on dismantling our Republic. They have a dark vision for our nation that does not include either the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. In those areas, parents had better be cognizant of what is happening to their children and be willing to defend their kids from political and sexual radicals.
“But I also believe that there are much larger swaths of America where sanity prevails. They understand that our nation has problems, but they love this country and believe it can be improved by political cooperation and a steadfast reliance on foundational principles. Even in these segments of the nation, however, parents must be diligent and watchful, because the Marxists have their hungry eyes trained on their children, too.”
