Abraham Hamilton, III Faults the Nation’s Educational System for Turning Americans Away from God

TUPELO, Miss. —Abraham Hamilton, III, host of The Hamilton Corner radio program on American Family Radio, is passionate about uncovering where America’s cultural demise began. Like many distinguished researchers he has studied, Hamilton, who is the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) general counsel and public policy analyst, has determined that the root of this evil can be found in the American educational system.

Hamilton has discussed this topic at great length on The Hamilton Corner.  Hamilton references a statement that Charles Francis Potter, Leader and Founder of the First Humanist Society of New York, Inc. and advisor in the Scopes Trial, made over 90 years ago: “Education is thus the most powerful ally of humanism and every American public school is a school of humanism.”

“What can theistic Sunday schools meeting for an hour once a week and teaching only a fraction of the children do to stem the tide of a five-day program of humanistic teaching?” asked Hamilton. “If you study history, you know, the ‘progressive movement’ really began to gain steam in America, the latter half of the 19th century and these wicked people saw they had a goal that we want to change America: They wanted to transform America into our image.

“Mr. Potter said that the most powerful ally of humanism is every American public school. Good, bad, and the ugly. We look at the albatross, that is the Leviathan that is government. It has enlarged itself. There’s a normalization of godlessness that we kind of live at, and we've been content to live there.

“Repentance is the only way forward repentance to a godly sorrow conviction from the Lord results in a change in heart and mind that causes a change in conduct.”

In an American Enterprise Institute report prepared by Lyman Stone, it is explained that the present decline is striking in its speed and uniformity across different measures of religiosity.

Stone’s data suggests evidence that specifically secular education might reduce religiosity is more compelling. Indeed, statistically, most researchers who have explored long-run change in religiosity find that education-related variables, which Stone has argued are a proxy for secular education, can explain nearly the totality of change in religiosity.
