American Family Association: Urge Governors to Fight Back Against Obama’s Transgender Policy Demands for Schools
TUPELO, Miss.—Late last week, the Obama administration sent a directive to thousands of school districts across the country, demanding they allow transgender students access to restrooms and locker rooms corresponding to their gender identity. Now, the American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is alerting its million-plus friends and supporters about the push and urging them to fight back.
According to AFA, the letter cited Title IX, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, but nowhere in Title IX is the term transgender mentioned.
“President Obama’s letter also hinted at lawsuits and loss of federal funds if school districts disobey this directive,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “According to President Obama, schools must allow public school students access to the restroom or locker room of the opposite sex. In essence, the Obama administration is saying either schools fall in line with its radical agenda or face punishment from government-sanctioned schoolyard bullies!
“This is a dangerous policy and a liability nightmare,” Wildmon continued. “Ultimately, God’s created and natural order is under assault. And, personally, as a dad and grandfather, I don’t want a teenage boy in the same restroom with my daughter or granddaughter.”
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson fired back at the Obama administration, stating, “As Governor, I recommend that local school districts disregard the latest attempt at social engineering by the federal government and continue to use common sense to ensure a safe and healthy environment in Arkansas schools. While the letter implies federal money could be withheld, the letter is nothing more than guidance and is not legally binding.”
“Governors across this country must fight back against this radical agenda that puts the safety of students at risk,” Wildmon added.
In an Action Alert this morning, AFA is asking concerned Americans to urge their governors to direct local school districts to disregard this letter and keep the safety of children a top priority.
The call for action regarding President Obama’s directive comes on the heels of AFA’s immensely successful and unprecedented #BoycottTarget pledge campaign, which has thus far garnered more than 1.2 million signatures, as apprehensive Americans, like those at AFA, do not want women and children put in harm’s way as a result of Target’s bathroom and fitting room policy. Last week, AFA hand-delivered one million petition signatures to Target headquarters in Minneapolis and expects to deliver the second million soon.
