THE STAND Blog is the place to find personal insights and perspectives from writers who respond to current cultural topics by promoting faith and defending the family.
THE STAND Magazine is AFA’s monthly publication that filters the culture’s endless stream of information through a grid of scriptural truth. It is chock-full of new stories, feature articles, commentaries, and more that encourage Christians to step out in faith and action.
TUPELO, Miss.—After Speaker of the House John Boehner announced his retirement last week, some conservative Republicans are now calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to step down from his leadership post.
In an Action Alert sent this week to its tens of thousands of friends and supporters, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) says that more and more conservatives are speaking out against the lack of backbone in standing against President Obama and liberal Democrats.
At the forefront is Boehner and McConnell’s refusal to defund Planned Parenthood of a $528 million dollar annual gift card at the hands of pro-life taxpayers.
“Despite the overwhelming video evidence that Planned Parenthood is mutilating babies and selling their parts, Boehner and McConnell have neither the will nor courage to protect lives of innocent children,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon. “In essence, they contribute to Planned Parenthood’s philosophy by putting their own price tag on the value of babies.”
Louisiana GOP Chairman Roger Villere is one high-profile Republican calling for McConnell to step down, stating, “McConnell needs to resign!”
“…the base is leaving our party,” Villere said in an interview with The Washington Times. “I’m out in the field all the time and we have all our elections this year for state offices, and it’s hurting us tremendously with our elections.”
Now, AFA is asking Americans if they agree by taking AFA’s online poll. Given his lack of conservative leadership, should Senator Mitch McConnell resign his position as Senate Majority Leader in the Senate? AFA plans to share the results of the poll on Oct. 6.
AFA Action, a division of AFA, recently sponsored the 2015 Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., where several AFA representatives were featured speakers or panel moderators. Among them was Director of Communications for AFA’s Urban Family Talk radio network, Meeke Addison, who has been called one of the weekend’s most engaging speakers. Watch the video of her address at the Summit.
