Mother’s Day is filled with complicated emotions. It’s a wonderful time to celebrate the blessings of faithful, loving mothers and their beautiful legacies of faith. But it can also be a painful reminder for those whose own lives were absent of the ideal mothering that is usually highlighted on Mother’s Day.
As someone who has experienced brokenness in my own journey with my mother, I have a tender heart for those who struggle.
I pray these blessings over you:
Single mamas: For every difficult thing you do with no one there to bear witness to your courage and sacrifice, I pray you would feel seen, appreciated, and loved. May people in your path show up unexpectedly with tangible support and words of encouragement. I pray that the love of your children would nourish your spirit and renew your strength. May you know that you are never alone.
Women longing to be mamas: For every ache you’ve felt in desiring a child of your own, for every disappointment you’ve experienced, I pray for supernatural comfort. I pray your heart would be protected from the unintended insensitivity of others. May you be blessed to receive just the right words of encouragement, and may the longings of your heart be nourished with hope.
Grieving mamas: For those who carry unimaginable tragedy and unspeakable grief, may you be blessed with a flood of hidden memories filled with smiles, laughter, and an overwhelming comfort that warms your heart. I pray that you find joy in the loved ones around you, as well as a peace that passes understanding.
Mamas missing their own mamas: For those who would give anything for just one more conversation, one more hug, one more moment, I am praying for you. May your grief today be eased in the revelation that something so beautiful that is missed so greatly is actually a treasure longed for by many. May you find joy in honoring the legacy of your beautiful mother through your actions and in your spirit.
Those experiencing brokenness: For those with the torturous ache of having a broken relationship with your mother, I empathize. I pray you are released from guilt, shielded from pain, and set free from the chains of unhealthy bonds. May you find peace, a lightness of spirit, and an immeasurable joy to fill the empty places in your heart.
Brokenhearted mamas: For those brokenhearted over your children’s choices, those who ache to be restored, those who agonize over every whisper of failure echoing in your heart, may you be reassured and comforted. May you forgive yourself and cultivate a heart of forgiveness toward your child. I pray for release from guilt and shame. I long for you to find freedom in the present and hope for restoration in the future.
Happy mamas: For every happy mama with happy kids in a happy marriage, may you be blessed with immeasurable gratitude to God. May you be protected from feelings of guilt that could arise when you realize just how blessed you are. May the burden of others’ pain not overshadow your journey. I pray that your joy would be a beacon of light and hope to all around you. May you celebrate the beauty of your blessing and know that you are cherished.
Whatever your mothering circumstance, I pray Numbers 6:24-26 over you: “[May] the Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace.”
I pray your heart will be moved to intentionally bless, with affirmation and gratitude, the mothers God has placed in your life. I pray you will find peace and joy in however you choose to celebrate Mother’s Day.
