August marks Cedra Sartin’s 14th year of employment at American Family Association (AFA).

Sartin had only been out of high school for a few years when Joey Moody, a family friend who worked for American Family Radio (AFR) at the time, brought her an employment application and insisted that she fill it out.

Back in 2011, Moody had a feeling that Sartin would fit right in at AFA – and he was right.

Over the years

“I thought I’d just be here for a little while,” Sartin explained to The Stand, “until I went back to school. But that little while turned into a 14-year career.”

She now works as the marketing assistant for AFA’s marketing department under the leadership of Angie May, the ministry’s director of marketing and content creation.

As marketing assistant, Sartin completes a variety of tasks for the director and the marketing team. Those tasks often (but not always) focus on the printing needs of the marketing team or social media projects the team conducts throughout the year.

However, Sartin fulfilled other roles at AFA before her present marketing job.

“I started out with the radio department on nights and weekends,” said Sartin. “I used to say that I did a little bit of everything at AFR, except host a show.”

Eventually, that changed when Sartin’s first job as a radio call screener evolved into her being a radio show producer, and now co-host of Share Truth Apply Scripture, a half-hour program that airs each Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Central on AFR.

Outside of AFA

Originally from Pontotoc, Mississippi, Sartin now lives in Tupelo, where AFA is headquartered, but still enjoys spending time with her parents and three younger siblings – brother, Collin, and sisters, Charlee and Leah.

A self-proclaimed “single pringle,” Sartin’s favorite role outside of AFA is being aunt to her two nephews, Jacob (age 6) and Caleb (age 4), and her only niece, Ruth (age 2).

One day, Ruth will likely enjoy Aunt Cedra’s favorite hobby as a makeup artist, which stems from her previous job at a cosmetics store.

“I’ve always loved working with makeup,” she explained. “I worked at both jobs for a while, until my part-time job at AFA turned into full time. And through the years, I’ve had the joy of doing makeup for several AFA brides.”

Within the ministry

But Sartin’s love for helping others runs much deeper than cosmetics. In fact, her favorite part of working at AFA is the fellowship with other employees.

“I love being around other Christians,” she stated. “Not many people get to openly discuss Christian values at work without it becoming an issue.”

Sartin paused and added, “Plus, anytime I can uplift somebody … then I know, in turn, other people here at AFA will come back and lift me up as well.”

Over the past 14 years, that philosophy has created many long-lasting relationships between Sartin and other young women at AFA.

“I know that no matter where we go,” she said, “or how busy we are, I could contact any of them, and in a moment, they are going to be there for me.”

She would immediately help them too.

For the truth is, Cedra Sartin is a living example of Christ-centered servanthood – and as Joey Moody knew long ago, that quality alone made her the perfect fit for American Family Association.
