Is the Bible Completely Authentic?

One of the most common objections to Christianity is the claim that the Bible is not completely authentic. Critics argue that it’s been changed over time, mistranslated, or filled with contradictions. Some even say it’s just a collection of myths and legends.

But is that really the case?

As someone who has spent years studying the Bible and defending its truth, I can confidently say: the Bible is not only authentic—it’s the most well-preserved, well-attested document of the ancient world. Let’s explore why.

1. Manuscript Evidence Supports the Bible’s Reliability

No other ancient document comes close to the Bible in terms of manuscript support. We have over 5,800 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament alone, some dating within decades of the original writings. Compare that to other ancient works—like Homer’s Iliad or Caesar’s Gallic Wars—which have far fewer copies and much longer gaps between the original and the earliest manuscripts.

The sheer volume and consistency of biblical manuscripts allow scholars to reconstruct the original text with over 99% accuracy. That’s not myth—that’s historical integrity.

2. Archaeology Confirms Biblical History

Time and again, archaeological discoveries have confirmed the historical details recorded in Scripture. From the existence of ancient cities like Jericho and Nineveh to the reigns of kings like David and Hezekiah, the Bible’s historical claims are supported by physical evidence.

Even skeptics have been surprised. Sir William Ramsay, a 19th-century archaeologist who set out to disprove the Bible, ended up becoming a believer after discovering how accurate the book of Acts was in its historical details.

3. The Bible’s Message Is Consistent Across Centuries

The Bible was written over a span of 1,500 years by more than 40 authors from different backgrounds—kings, prophets, fishermen, and scholars. And yet, it tells one unified story: God’s plan to redeem humanity through Jesus Christ.

Despite being written in different languages and cultures, the Bible’s message is remarkably consistent. That kind of harmony isn’t the result of human planning—it’s the fingerprint of divine inspiration.

4. Jesus Affirmed the Authority of Scripture

Jesus didn’t treat the Bible as a flawed or outdated book. He quoted it, taught from it, and fulfilled its prophecies. In Matthew 5:18, He said, “Until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”

If Jesus—whom even secular historians acknowledge as a real historical figure—affirmed the Bible’s authority, then we should take it seriously too.

If you’ve been told the Bible is unreliable, I encourage you to look deeper. Don’t settle for secondhand skepticism. Examine the evidence for yourself. Read the Scriptures with an open mind and heart.
