My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart,
for they bring life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body.
Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)
For the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 2:14
Life is designed to be full of God. That's a simple yet profound truth. Fill your life with the Light of God's Word. One powerful reason that we are wise to do this is because God’s Word is pregnant with life, grace, and peace. In other words, God’s Word is pregnant with the ability to bless your entire life!
"The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)
"Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a Light to my path." Psalm 119:105
How do we fill our lives with God? Fill your life with the Word of God. The Word of God is the Light of God. Speak only the Word of God and words that agree with the Word. Pray and ask the Lord to help you to do this.
In Joshua chapter one, we are told :
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8
What is the Lord telling us when He says “This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth” in this book?
The Lord commanded Joshua and us to continually speak the Word of God. In other words, we are to make it a lifestyle of speaking the Word of God and thus speak the promises and wisdom of God continually. Great power and wisdom exist in speaking God’s Word consistently. Speaking the powerful Word of God is a mighty way to use the Sword of the Spirit!
There are at least seven ways we can put the Word of God to work in our lives very fruitfully every single day. We can :
Read it. Hear it. Believe it. Speak it. Obey it. Pray it. And meditate on it.
God's Word heals all the ills of life. And the Word of God is Jesus. Wise people fill their lives with the Word of God.
We think of words as tools or instruments for communication. And they are tools or instruments of communication. But they are much more than that. Our words are also weapons and power tools to accomplish tasks or things in our lives.
Our words have power. When we speak words, they carry power behind them. In Proverbs 18:21, it tells us “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
So we are very wise to speak God’s Word daily and to speak promises from God’s Word every day as well. Also, praying God’s Word every day is very fruitful and will bless us in many ways.
The habit of reading three chapters a day in the Word of God is a very wise habit. And it’s wise for adults, for youth, and for children.
Also, listening to the Word in some form of audio Bible or app is very fruitful. One can cover a lot of ground doing this every day. Yet this should supplement your Bible reading not replace it. Why? Because nothing can replace reading and meditating on God's Word daily.
When you spend time reading and meditating on the Word, you are having an appointment with Jesus. It is time for One-on-one with Him. It is time for sitting at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:38-42).
He is not only sharing Truth with you. He is also pouring grace, peace, wisdom, encouragement, joy, and healing into your spirit, mind, and body – your entire life – all at once. These things happen when you spend time reading and meditating on God's Word.
"The instructions of the Lord are perfect,
reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living.
Reverence for the Lord is pure,
lasting forever.
The laws of the Lord are true;
each one is fair.
They are more desirable than gold,
even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb.
They are a warning to your servant,
a great reward for those who obey them.
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin.
May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."
Psalm 19:7-14 (NLT)
Some of the wisest people in the world are people who make it a priority daily to make time to be still and, like Mary, sit at the feet of Jesus as seen here:
"As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, ‘Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.’
But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:38-42 (NLT)
When you take time, really take time to read and meditate on the Word of God daily, this is one way to "sit at the feet of Jesus".
Also, when we spend time both reading the Word of God and PRAYING the Word of God, this too is a way of "sitting at the feet of Jesus."
God’s Word is also His will. Do you want to know the will of God. Read His Word. The Word of God is the will of God – in all circumstances.
Let’s be wise enough to make reading God’s Word a priority – every day.
We are very unwise to say, "I can't afford to take the time or I don't have the time to read and meditate on the Word every day."
It’s much more accurate to say "I can't afford NOT to spend time reading and meditating on God's Word every day."
Our time in God's Word is its own reward. Filling your life with the Word of God is one of the wisest things in life anyone can do. Let’s make much time for God’s Word – every day.
