“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” ” Psalm 91:1-2 (Read all of Psalm 91).
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come…” 2 Timothy 3:1 (Read all of II Timothy 3).
The Word of God is many things. It is His book. It is His extended text message from Heaven. It contains and reveals both His will and wisdom. Yet, the Word also contains weapons for believers. Yes, God’s Word is also a weapon. In Ephesians 6:17, the Word of God is referred to as “the sword of the Spirit…”
We live in perilous times in a dangerous culture and world. Is there a way that people who are followers of Christ can be safe from the many dangers and perils in this world? Can believers find true protection through our faith and trust in the Lord?
Are you aware that there is a place in God - a secret place - for believers who desire and believe God for divine protection? It is a place of protection and physical safety that God teaches us about in Psalm 91. There, you find a collection of protection promises that form a powerful weapon of security and defense that only God can provide. We are wise to confess those promises over our lives and over our families. Also, we are wise to pray, using the wisdom and weapons of protection found in Psalm 91. The following is one way to pray a prayer based on the wisdom and power in Psalm 91.
Praying Psalm 91 - A Prayer for Protection
Today, I dwell in the secret place of the most High,
and so I abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Today I say of the LORD,
You are my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in You I trust.
Surely you deliver me from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
You cover me with Your feathers, and under Your wings I trust:
Your truth is my shield and buckler.
And so, I am not afraid for the terror by night;
nor for the arrow that flies by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness;
nor for the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand;
but it shall not come near me.
Only with my eyes do I look and see the reward of the wicked.
Because I have made the Lord my refuge, even the most High, my habitation;
No evil befalls me, nor does any plague come nigh my dwelling.
For He gives his angels charge over me, to keep me in all my ways.
They bear me up in their hands, lest I dash my foot against a stone.
I tread upon the lion and the cobra:
the young lion and the serpent I trample under foot.
Because I have set my love upon Him, therefore He delivers me:
He sets me on high, because I have known His name.
I call upon Him, and He answers me:
He is with me in trouble;
He delivers me, and honors me.
With long life He satisfies me,
and shows me His salvation.
In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
You and I would be wise to pray this prayer for ourselves and for our families every day. Why is that true? Well, the answer is simple. No one can protect you like God can. Period.
