Texas has a chance to lead the nation once again by passing an important bill in the legislature. The bill in the state’s House of Representatives enables students and teachers to voluntarily participate in Bible readings and prayer on school premises before the school day begins.

SB 11 allows school districts to adopt policies to provide students and employees with an opportunity to participate in a period of prayer and Bible reading during each school day, as long as the prayer period does not encroach upon instructional time.

Please contact your Texas House member today and ask them to vote for SB 11.

Thanks to Chairman Ken King and his strong support for Texas public schools, SB 11 has passed out of committee in the House. The next step is a vote on the full House floor.

You can make that vote happen by contacting your Texas House member today and asking them to make sure SB 11 comes up for a vote.

SB 11 is a commonsense bill that provides for a clear and comprehensive informed consent process so that students and teachers may exercise their First Amendment rights at school. It’s also perfectly consistent with the Constitution and with America’s history and tradition of using the Bible in public schools.

Whatever happens at school – exams, bullies, dissecting frogs - there is no doubt that starting the day in prayer will make everything better. SB 11 would help kids in Texas do that.

Please contact your Texas House member today and ask them to vote for SB 11 and ask Texas Speaker Dustin Burrows to bring this bill forward for a vote.
