We are ruined as a nation barring Divine intervention. As we have seen with virtually any government
entitlement program (welfare, social security, food stamps, etc.) once people
get used to getting handouts you can forget about them ever (willingly) going
back to hard work. It ain’t happening
and there is no going back. It’s gotten
so bad that now even foreigners think they have a right to enter this country whenever they please, as they please, to do as they
please. And here is the kicker…I should
not only agree to it but actually foot the bill for their lodging, food,
medicine, insurance, education and anything else they think they have a right
to. As if on cue Nancy Pelosi goes to
the southern border declaring to all the illegals “We are all Americans.”
Everyone with even a modicum of common sense and knowledge
knows that its all happening for one reason and only one reason: so that
Democrats can garner and retain political power. It simply blows my mind that there doesn’t
seem to be an ounce of true patriotism on the Left in Washington D.C.
today. Only a tiny handful of
politicians are speaking the patriot’s voice of opportunity (not entitlement),
limited government, and personal responsibility. They are Tea Partyers and though I fully
support their stand I know they are doomed to failure. Why?
Take a look at what happened in my home state of Mississippi
recently. Tea Party conservative Chris
McDaniel beat incumbent Senator Thad Cochran in the primary. In the runoff (though he got more votes
McDaniel didn’t cross the 50% threshold) the Cochran camp enticed liberal
democrats to vote for him (because he would bring more money to them than
McDaniel) and voila: Cochran goes from losing the primary by nearly two
thousand votes to winning the runoff by nearly eight thousand votes. The magic formula for success? Keep promising people on the public dole that
if elected their freebies will continue.
If what it takes to get elected today is promising to give
people what they didn’t work for and don’t deserve there is no hope for
America. The words of Democratic
President John F. Kennedy are falling on deaf ears in his own party today: “Ask
not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your
country.” There is no call from
Democrats today for any kind of personal sacrifice. We have become a “what’s in it for me?”
nation and there is little, if any, concern about where we will end up if we
continue down the narcissism trail.
Today, I printed out a copy of the Declaration of
Independence since we are so close to the fourth of July. Here are a few things that struck me. In the second paragraph you find this:
“Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the
consent of the governed.” The key word
there is “consent.” Liberal activist
judges are wreaking havoc on America by overturning the consent of the governed
in almost every state where people have voted to uphold traditional
marriage. Without the consent of the
governed gay marriage is being foisted on the nation. Also, just this week the Supreme Court
backhanded the President again for taking authority that doesn’t belong to him
(recess appointments this time). The
people “consented” to the Constitution.
This President scorns that consent (that is a fair statement since he
claims he is a Constitutional scholar and was a Constitutional Law professor). Within days of being humiliated by the
Supremes he comes right back to say that he will bypass Congress once again on
the immigration issue. We are no longer
being governed by our consent.
Try looking at the first the first two grievances against
the King of England our founders listed:
He has refused to Assent to Laws, the most
wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of
immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his
Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to
attend to them.
That first one sure sounds
familiar. Hasn’t our sitting President
told his Justice Department NOT to enforce laws like DOMA and immigration? And haven’t the governed determined that
those laws the President has decided not to enforce are “necessary for the
public good?” That second one sure does
remind me of Executive shenanigans surrounding Obamacare. Perhaps the line in the Declaration that
strikes a most familiar chord with me is this description of the English King:
“A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a
Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” Sounds right to me. And familiar.
Perhaps what is really wrong with
America today is best expressed in the very last sentence of our Declaration of
And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance
on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our
Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
How many in our nation’s Capitol are not only not relying of
God but are actively working to rid the country of any mention of Him? Most importantly, though, is the obvious lack
of any desire by the citizens of this country to do anything for the good of
all that even hints at any risk of life or fortune. If there is even a whiff of personal
sacrifice in the air no politician has a chance of guiding this country back in
the right direction. And if that is the
case, corporately, we have lost “our sacred Honor.”
