Without a doubt the battle for the integrity of the Bible and the absolute truth it contains is the most difficult of all battles that have been fought in the history of man. The direction of men and cultures is inseparably intertwined in either the maintenance of, or the departure from, Biblical principles. The American church community and the nation collectively are engaged once again in the residue from this same battle.
I recognize that the battle for truth, freedom and liberty is never conclusively won, and because there isn’t anything new under the sun, this battle must ever be fought and established in every successive generation, and ours is no exception. Every new generation must fight this battle! The next fifty years in the American society will be shaped by the victors in this present conflict for truth. While the parameters and the talking points of the battle may change, and has from generation to generation, the foundational nature of the battle, its primary leadership and its disputants is always the same.
We sometimes overlook key Biblical concepts that would, if remembered, make our attitude in the struggle for truth more informed and competent. Uppermost in my mind is the prediction of the Creator in Genesis 3 that the Creator God put “enmity (hatred)” between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent as a part of the great curse, and just a casual perusal into the pages of Scripture will reveal that enmity—a cruel, venomous animosity between good and evil has been present within men and nations ever since. Because of this aspect of the curse, it should never be surprising to us that our earthly contest for Biblical reality is met with such serious conflict from such a serious opponent.
We must always remember that we wrestle not against flesh and blood; even though the enemy of Truth has fleshly disciples (the seed of the serpent) and the impetus in this battle is garnered from the spiritual motivation of the founder of evil—himself a created entity! It is in the full-orbed radiance of this fact that I take great courage, because our Founder and Author of our faith is the epitome of all Truth and the Great Creator of all! So, disciples of the cross take encouragement and build yourself up in your most holy faith, for we fight in the name of the King of kings and the Lord of lords; it is He who is at the vanguard of the battle. The Apostle Paul assessed the situation to Timothy like this:
…for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day. Hold fast to the form of sound words, which you have heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. (II Timothy 1:12-13)
